One thing I’ve learned in troubleshooting a circuit board in my electronic class long time ago is whenever something is not working or whenever a component or certain circuit is not getting any signal, you start trouble/checking from the part or place where the culprit is and work your way back until you find where the problem is.

I've been doing it for over 30 years on airliners so with something like a 777-300 where one end of the circuit can conceivably be close to a football field's distance from the other you generally try to start by cutting it in half but the number one driver is usually access. Airliners however have a thing called redundancy so you can usually start by swapping two components. Still, there are times when someone puts in a screw that's a tad too long or just flat out drills through a wire bundle. Those are the tough ones.

I already wasn't excited about flying right now, this doesn't help.

No worries, it's the guy who forgot the $ 0.03 "O" ring in the engine oiling system that should worry you, or the inspector who was too casual, or the imperfect turbine blade casting that is invisible UNTIL it blows out piercing the cabin and the window seater, there are also several of those software engineers trying to do us in.
    ;-)

Still one of the safest ways to travel.

What's often overlooked are the switches. I cleaned the motors from the old grease and they were still slow. Last year my drivers side window stopped completely. I disassembled the switches, cleaned the contacts and applied a little bit of conductor grease onto the contacts. Now my windows are almost as fast as those on my modern daily driver.
The conductor grease also suppresses that damaging arcing on the switch contacts.

    Best from Germany
