guys just got back from New Orleans car went over 44K no issues yep its dirty needs wash and wax planning on a run to long Island at the end of the month then up to New Hampshire to visit a friend then back to Georgia need to get the wheels re balanced slight shimmy above 100 mph ! that's it for now trying to break 50k by the end of the year on the car still have one more long distance trip on the car to New Jersey in November
been driving just went over 45k on the car this week car runs great I don't care what the guys say about the F-1 gear box you cant shift as fast with a 6 speed manual especially when under full throttle acceleration I own a 512 TR and I could never move the gated shifter as fast as I could paddle up or down those who want to pay more for less performance with the 6 speed are missing out big time! hoping to brake 50k by the end of the year get out and drive the car !!!
Soon broken in Clarence... Please post some more photos of everyday V12 life! I am on 155.000 kms. now and it drives perfect! Image Unavailable, Please Login
My plan is to ship my my 575 over to Europe and drive around for a month then come home Flew all over Europe at 100feet in my fighter Now I want to do it in my 575!
I remember one time on maneuvers' in Germany we were on a small hill, certainly less than 200 ft. above the valley floor. A F86 flying close support came up the valley and I was looking DOWN into the cockpit!
great picture! If I can be at any help, please let me know! One thing is the shipping of the car. That should be no problem at all. You can have a hauler come and pick it up at your home or you can deliver it at a port. I would just use a RO-RO ship or you can put it into a container. Once the car is at the European side and still within the fence, someone need to guarantee for the taxes as you don’t want to pay any tax for just a short period, typically 20% of the car’s value. I can check this out for you. Once that is taken care of, I believe you can, with a valid insurance, drive anywhere you like! These cars are really good at 250 kph. and more. I can’t stress you enough that it is important to experience it when you own a car like this. Because it is so much enjoyable when it is legal to go that fast!
Well it it was an F-86 as you say That was a rare site indeed The F-86/ was long gone by the time I suited up
will do I have an apartment in Paris Always wanted to park the car in front of my favorite Cafe Du Flore and have a drink Can’t wait until this virus is under control somewhat
ok so here is a link to low level flying in the UK it is called LFA-7 (low fly area 7) done it many time back in the day flying out of RAF Alconberry in an RF-4C my brothers flying F-111's out of Upper Hayford and Lakenheath were way faster than me in fact there is no other aircraft that I am aware of that is faster on the deck than a F-111 The F-105 was fast on the deck but it ran out of steam at 650kts, how do I know ? I out ran one at a RED FLAG in the 80's and he was clean. I had an FB-111 out of Pease walk away from me at Cold Lake Alberta Canada on the deck I was at or below 100' AGL doing Mach 1.1+ and they swept their wings back and checked out! when I got on the ground I asked flight lead how fast they were going. he said and I quote " I stopped looking after 1.2 mach" I really don't know what the F-111 could do on the deck, all I know is that me in my RF-4C were good at around Mach 1.1 or so it was the most fun you could have with your clothes on!
Clyde- We wanted to take the world's fastest F-111F, 70-2400 and break the world low altitude speed record, but USAF wanted nothing to do with it. The F-111F had 25% more thrust than the F-111D or FB-111A. 70-2400 would actually supercruise at Mach 1.10 at 24,000' or so. Lost a case of beer on that one night. Got a few noise complaints, too. Not sure how fast one would actually go low level, but it was well over Mach 1.3. They were good for Mach 2.6+ at altitude, but the Total Temp warning came on pretty quickly as the airframe heated. Slow down within 300 secs or see structural damage.
The F-111 was the horse no doubt about it, it was fast! In RF-4C with 3 tanks and a ALQ-131 pod irregardless of the OAT I could break the Mach low level in min burner As the fuel burned down, could do it in MIL But the F-111 could still out run us, and do it for a long time I might add. Never forgot that run a Cold Lake those FB’s checked out like star ships going to light speed I actually tapped my airspeed indicator to see if it was stuck, because they pulled away so fast, and I was using cutoff to try to catch them!
Clyde- Affirmative, in tests against US and Russian fighters from a 500 KTAS or so even start, nothing could stay with an F-111F accelerating through the Mach. Of course, that was a while ago (F-111s retired in 1996) and the newer fighters have much higher T/W ratios, even if they are not as clean through the Mach as an F-111 with wings swept to 72.5 degrees.
December 2017 “Jeff Guinn chats about flying the USAF F-111 Aardvark. He includes his training, being based at Upper Heyford and flying in Desert Storm.” “ ... 930 knots on the deck” Excellent presentation. A must watch. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-hrrMlksNA
Just a little inspiration from our last visit to Cafe Du Flore! I’ve been secretly plotting a ship-my-car-to-Europe trip myself. One day we’ll open up again... in the meantime: Image Unavailable, Please Login
well I was on the move today in the north Georgia Mountains with a few of my friends in their Ferraris as well leaves are staring to turn it was good to get out get out and drive Ferraris love the fall weather until then Clyde
That Vark video was fantastic. What a career and what a humble guy. From flying 900+knots to installing TV sat dishes to pay the bills until something better came up. True Grit.
ok so its not a 575 but my 1993 512 TR just did 111,111 miles will be at the Italian car show this Saturday in Atlanta willing to bet i have more miles on my car than all the Ferraris that will be there !!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
