I started putting together some information on the theory and basic diagnosing of the F1 system for some of the most common fault. I expect this to be a somewhat living document as I add more. If theres specific areas/failures youd like me to cover in more detail please let me know as well!

I don't understand the statement below. If the Accumulator is leaky wouldn't the pump run too much as it tries to raise the pressure to operating standard?

This is referring to leakage internally (never seen one leak externally). If there's no opposing pressure (and hence variable volume) being exerted by the accumulator in the closed circuit, the system will rise in pressure very quickly so the TCU will run the pump for a very short time. The accumulators job is to store energy and when it fails, its capacity goes with it.

Think of it similar to a battery thats on its last legs on your cell phone. It'll reach 100% charge very quickly, but at the same time discharge and die very quickly as well.

 

I’ve owned a F1 car since may and I love it. It is the perfect marriage of “automatic” and “manual”.

The only reason manuals are in vogue is that there are far fewer of them. If the two were of equal market value, I would take the F1 without hesitation.

 

There are actually far fewer 355 F1

Thought I would hate the F1 style transmissions too but it's actually kind of fun. I have several other manual cars from different makes that can fulfil me if I really want.

That's a fair point. It definitely got improved with each revision.
