550 Purist

Stock 550 mufflers are cheap and easily found. Stock Ferrari-branded SONY AM/FM/Cassette head and CD changer stereo systems appear on eBay occasionally and command a high price which purists habitually pay.

 

If you like it buy it. The 550 is a used car. Just enjoy it. If you are worried about value there are many other things to invest in. Modern Ferraris are no investment. These are toys...

 

Silver name plates that could be customized were an option on 550s. "Dedication Plate in Silver"

3000 550's made. If you want a 550 that will definitely appreciate in value where trivial things such as original radios might matter, buy a Barchetta...

A 550 Maranello is made to be enjoyed. Factory radio is bad, stick a decent modern one in that has bluetooth for your phone and drive across continents.

 

Terry, my 550 never got a silver plate. But my technician stamped this metal tag for my car when he heard it with straight pipes and second generation Tubi mufflers...

I've not seen that plate in photo 47 often..... "Fred Barbara" I assume that example is what you are referring to and "Fred" was the gentlemen that originally ordered that 2000 550 (120163)?

18/20 inches is a lot of lift. Must need really long push rods and rocker arms.

 

In 2000 that plate cost $294.

 

I have one of those plates in my 2001.

 

Our plates are better than any personalized plates Ferrari made, Eric. Our cars have been named.

 

The dedication plate in our car was really beat up ... so I had it redone ... using a quick sketch as to give homage to the 550’s heritage

Nice place for the plate. On the 575M, they were on the dash.

 

My car had a dedication plate the was removed by previous owner and had the two holes in the tunnel. I hated the holes and couldn't stomach the cost of a new factory dedication plate so I bought the one that went on the Enzo (I think). Amazingly, it was way cheaper. Anyway, it's Enzo's signature and it looks nice

 

Found it. This one. Only $100, and looks good. I know 550 is not a true Enzo era car but its good for me

Anyone know where to buy a blank dedication plate? Part #65643100. I've looked without much luck, any advice appreciated. Can they be ordered from the dealer or are they NLA?

 

Eurospares says they have them. Same one for the 360, 550, and 612, but they want $500 for one. Did you try Maranello Classic Parts? The say ask for quote.

 

Did you remove the main panel to replace that dedication plate? How difficult was that?

 

Nothing that complicated. As I recall was able to access the bolts after pulling the ashtray/lighter box from the console.
