Well I am sitting here right now at Laguna Seca as I am part of Ferrari Challenge this weekend here. And I am very familiar with Tesla to say the least.

Driving the Challenge car here, there are plenty of people here pulling 1:27 to 1:28s in a modified version that is a cross of the 488 and Pista optimized for racing (downforce, etc.). But it still is in the same weight zone as those cars. The 488GTE and GT3 cars are group builds by Michelloto.

Now given this, if you look at the optimization being done for the SF90, yes it will for sure be faster around Laguna than this Tesla, it also comes down to who is driving the car. And what track condition is at Laguna that day. Laguna has extremely wide variance based on the amount of sand that has blown onto the track, etc.

Take all of the cars on the same track on the same day with the same driver for the exact comparison.

Also, if you read the tester’s comment he mentions how great the car’s acceleration is compared to other high performance cars. But he only mentions “acceleration.” That is a very careful way of not damaging his reputation with other manufacturers or the racing community.

In terms of Tesla telling the truth. I can believe this was in a standard sedan. They have not under delivered on performance statements in the past and have nothing to gain by doing it now.

To me, the point of brand bragging rights is important here. 99.99% of Tesla drivers have no clue what a race actually means. They just think it means 0 - 60 mph. This translates over to brand halo.

IMO, the cars have a clinical look that suggests high performance transportation. Trust me, I know this company at a very early and deep level. It was designed to be a fast motor car company.

Ferrari’s DNA is a racing company that monetizes through cars. If that means moving to hybrid or electric, Ferrari will do that. Ferrari is focused on winning races. The cars design and function is built around that. And the consumer cars bring that out.

Tesla cars don’t and won’t. Ever. It’s not in the DNA of the company and will never and can’t change. This has always been a company about technology innovation, not about winning races and most importantly, giving the car customers that feeling.

I don't understand the disdain for Tesla on FChat. We are at about the Model-T era in electric car evolution and the capabilities and performance are amazing. Will Tesla ever be a great race car? Probably not. They did demonstrate full battery swap in about 60 seconds but of course that doesn't compare to typical race car refueling time, mileage, or weight.

99.99% of Tesla drivers will never take their car on a race track, even if it was fully capable. A few stop-light grand prix on their daily commute is plenty exciting enough for your average person. I would guess < 1% of Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, or even Porsche owners will ever take their car on a race track either.

Look at the 2020 Le Mans results last weekend where Aston Martin won in GTE PRO and GTE AM. Is the average Aston Martin owner ever going to track their car? No way. But the racing heritage and success still helps sell cars. So if Tesla can say their car has faster 0-60 of almost any car in the world, regardless of price, that is great. Who cares if it can only do a few of those extreme 0-60 runs in a few minutes and then have to wait for the batteries to cool.

It has more to do with a perceived notion that electric has inherent disadvantages that won't eventually be overcome say in 100 years? The only truly objective thing that can be critiqued is sound, which is of course different. Even all aspects of NVH can be reproduced (albeit artificially) - but it's fake cries the purists!

Just funny how every double-blind audiophile test on the most 'discriminating' ear on say a lossless digital recording of saying a Vinyl recording has always shown it's bogus, nobody can consistently hear the difference beyond some savants.

Some folks will insist on paying $10,000 on audio cables. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Spotify doesn't stop anybody from buying a record player if they so choose now and forever.

Who cares if the tesla is faster than a mclaren. It's a replacement for a Volvo or whatever family sedan. Now the Evija, that's something else.
