Just started happening :-( Will spark a plug change fix the problem? If a coil has gone faulty does anyone know how to isolate simply the faulty one? Thx Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If you have someone who has a proper diagnosis tool you can pull codes and also see which cylinder is misfiring..if the case Hesitation could be a number of things What's the mileage ? Pulling plugs and looking at them can also indicate if a problem ..the old method of looking at plugs for oil , carbon, etc Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Is the check engine light on? If so, have you tried turning the ignition on and off three times to see if the codes display?
Hi Mileage is 39k 2005 spider. No codes or lights noted, I’ll try the ignition on/off 3 times Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
At 39k ..if spark plugs weren't done ever it may not be a bad idea anyway ..while changing them look at them and notice any issue per say The codes may not set off a check engine light but may be stored if anything to do with electronics, spark, variators etc .if fuel delivery issue it may not be recorded Up to you if you want to start on sometime ..the plugs are are not a bad thing to replace in that mileage anyway I normally do not change anything without proper diag but again a maintenance item like plugs at 39k ..not a bad idea Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Did the ignition 3 times, no fault codes. When speed is over 20mph engine runs normal. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Ok so low rpm probably not fuel With a diag tool to read any hidden codes hard to tell But the causes can be Maf Spark plugs ..wires Coil Like I had mentioned above you can pull plugs and look at each one to identify the bad cylinder Also I know you can possibly test resistance of the coil ..but that is not fail proof Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
One last thing ..look for oil near maf.. sometimes overfilling crankcase causes oil to get into intake and muck up maf.. they may be dirty as well Let us know what you find I am not pushing this ..but a 70 dollars ap200 diag tool may be worth the investment Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
How is the idle? Could be a small vacuum leak from bad intake gaskets or from other areas. I too recommend looking at the car with a diagnostic device to figure out what is going on. Mine not only shows current codes but also "pending codes" which is very helpful.
Question... If there are codes won't the check engine light come on? Or can there be codes and no check engine light?
There can be codes without check engine light ..especially for non emissions type issues .. like body modules etc Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Learn something new everyday... Is there a place in the Autel AP200 to see them all or do you need to go into each live data module? Just curios if my car has any codes that I don't know about.
I use the x431 mostly even though I have the ap200 ...so not 100 percent sure if how it works .. the dtc list should cover all the modules not just obd codes that set off light Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Any updates ..love to hear any resolution ..for me and the forum Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Hi guys Car is booked in at a specialist for early September as my skills and tool kit is woefully limited. A new set of 8 coils and plugs have been ordered anyway as all theses are the originals, now15 years old. Looking through all the old service invoices I have (not a complete set sadly) no mention of these parts being replaced. I'll update in due course.
Update Had to wait weeks for coils, serious delays. I now have all 8 coils and plugs but UK is now on “lock down” workshop closed. ♂️ Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Changing the COP's is about the easiest DIY you can get on an F car. All you need is a 10mm wrench and about five minutes per cylinder to change them.
I did have a look at the proposition of having ago, as it’s a Spider the coils at the front of the engine are in a real tight space under steel supports so with my limited skills and big arms I’ll pass. The cars not being driven, using my daily driver a Mustang 5ltr GT, not great in the wet.
The plugs are due at that miles anyway, if you look on e bay you can find a set of coils at greatly reduced price if needed. Plugs and coils are easy on that engine.
Thanks, when the car is in the workshop in a few weeks I’ll have the vacuum checked. Any idea where that vacuum leak would be? Any common areas? The other job to fix is fitting new hand brake cables and setting it up correctly. I spoke to the previous owner who said the hand brake had always been a problem. He also told me he had fitted Fabspeed headers, kept OEM exhaust, I wondered why it was so loud. He was a photographer and used the car as a prop with models draped all over the car, he’ll send me photos, I’ll post some pics.
There has been comments on here about replacement manifolds damaging the handbrake cable, if they do not have the insulation blankets.
