Hi, I am going to be replacing all my bushings on 85 308 QV and would like to know what needs to be replaced on the rear outer bushings. Do I need to replace the entire complete outer bushings, or just certain parts like; rubber seals, inner bushings, thrust washers, etc. I already have the inner bushings and wanted to get suggestions on what is needed for the outer bushings. Thank you. Russ

When I did mine the only thing I changed were the Thrust Washers (9) and the Inner Bush (8). They are coated with PTFE (Teflon) and mine were shot. Unless something else is obviously worn I wouldn't touch them. If your having trouble finding the Thrust washers they are available from Motionindustries.com for $4.03ea the part number is WC20DU. Sounds like you already have the inner bushes but if someone else is looking there available from asb-American Sleeve Bearing (asbbearings.com) for $2.00ea part number ZU MB2025ZU. I agree with Steve if yours are in good shape I would reuse.

Thank you, I did a search and I didn't find anything related to the outer control arm component replacement. I was thinking of replacing the thrust washers (9) and possibly Inner Bush (8). I will clean up the parts and look for wear. It seems that the inner bushing rubber just ages over time and becomes cracked and worn.

Does all 308 thrust washer on the rear outer A arm has the PTFE coating on one side and is it important to have that coating?

The PTFE coating rides against a polished surface disk. This is a dry lubricant set up and the rubber seal keeps it dry..... just saying. No grease is used on this set up.

As far as I know all 308's used the same design and would stand to reason that they all used the PTFE washers and bushes. If the PTFE is worn and the washer and disk are metal to metal your going to end up destroying the other parts. For the price of replacements it was a no brainer for me to replace them.

I am considering powder coating the control arms, but I would like to know if the suspension outer bush (4) needs to be removed prior to powder coating. I know that the inner bushings need to be removed prior to powder coating.

I believe the oven is heated to between 350-450°. You'll want to remove the bushings.

I'm not an expert on powder coating but I believe they have high heat tape that they can mask off the metal outer bushings with. Not sure if your going with OEM style rubber inner bushings or going with aftermarket poly urethan bushings. If your using urethan just remove the inner sleeve and rubber and have them mask the inner surface. Birdman's site has a good tutorial on replacing the OEM with poly.

On my 1982 308GTSi the answer is yes the outer bushings and sleeves need to be removed. Powder coating would not be good on those surfaces..... just saying.

Is this correct, the PTFE side is facing this shiny disc just like this pic shows? I also bought the last five thrust washers from Motion Industries and the last three from Applied Industrial Technology. Motion Industries said they can order more but there’s a minimum of 25 pieces and for $3.79 each, it’s still cheap. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Yes. And make sure, that the little pin in the opposite part is still present.

That's perfect. I am not sure, whether the pins should be a press fit anyway. Mine were stuck as well. Except one, which fell out, while doing the job.

The pins come out with small diagonals. They are available from the disk suppliers. Common part.
