Some good racing at the Petite Le Mans this year. The Pipo Derani and Ricky Taylor incident was a bummer but I agreed with the determination that it was a racing incident given that Pipo went right, then moved back over to the left before the corner. At the beginning of a race I think that could have been called for a penalty but with 10 minutes to go in an endurance race I think it was the right call. The 31 car has caused damage to a few cars over the course of this season so I don't exactly feel bad for them.
It looked to me like Pipo tried to close the door after Ricky already had his foot in it. It's ironic that Ricky's dad was the beneficiary of the incident!
Ferrari 488 cars looking horrible in IMSA. I'm not sure of the issues if it's BoP rules or the team isn't getting the cars set up right
That is the only race won and they came in 2nd I believe Sebring early this year... no other podiums and way back in the pack. Lexus, Lambo Acura have been more consistent in podiums. I pull for Weather Tech, wear the shirt...not kidding. I really miss Risi in GTLM...zero Ferrari presence in GTLM but GTLM is on the way out. I will be at Sebring in a couple weeks...hoping pulling for a win!
They have had some bad luck this year. Also skipped 2 races to go play in Ferrari Challenge. GTD is an interesting class. It is very clear which treams have true AMs and which are using up and comers as their "AM". There is a pretty big difference between Riley, Hardpoint, Magnus and MSR and AVS. Compass and WeatherTech are sorta there in the middle. Have fun at Sebring. I was really hoping I would be able to make it. I got to 3 races this year so I can't complain too much.
Sebring sounds really good this time of year! Enjoy for me Regarding Risi, yes, we miss (wife flags) them, too. Yes, the W-Tech Ferrari 488 was not present at Mid Ohio 9/26-27/2020 so there was that. 1 less major race for that team this weird season.... I/we are BIG fans of this W-Tech Series. (Could not care less for F1 , nastycar, ovals, truck series.)
They also skipped Charlotte. I agree, the IMSA WeatherTech series and the Michelin Pilot Challenge are the series out there IMO. Hopefully car count is decent next year. I am a little worried about a primarily LMP3 field for next year.
The RLL BMW team is toying with the notion of doing the big-four endurances races only next year. If this happens, Corvette will be the only remaining team contesting GTLM for the balance of the year. Calls from Daytonner to Houston must he fast and furious. https://racer.com/2020/11/06/bmw-team-rll-eyeing-endurance-only-program-in-2021/ BHW
Cooper MacNeil is considering running a 488 in GTLM, and they're talking to an Aston team as well. I also wouldn't be surprised if someone leases the PMNA 911 RSRs next year. GTLM will survive but most likely become more Pro/Am https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/scuderia-corsa-could-make-gtlm-switch-in-2021/
He can get 3rd place at all the sprint rounds In all seriousness, I would like to see some privateers come into GTLM for however much longer it lasts. I miss when Risi and Falken used to play there.
