Red flag because a Ferrari took out a bollard.

The drivers don't seem to have a lot of fun during the 1st practice session, with the track offering no grip.
There used to be a minimum period of time between resurfacing and a race; here it's just 2 weeks since the work was done.
The times are completely unrepresentative at the moment.

    1) They wet the track in the morning.
    2) Yes, the resurfacing doesn't help.
    3) Track temp was low (15c).
    4) Hard tire not getting up to temp plus all of the above.

Yeah, it's like driving on ice as one driver put it.

Seems Pirelli learned nothing in Portimao. What a huge surprise...At least this afternoon we should see proper lap times.

Simple solution is to make the tracks out of rubber and the tires out of asphalt.

Are the Mercs sandbagging? Saving tyres?

And even then Pirelli would find a way to make tyres that explode.

Congratulations to Sauber for their 500th GP!

Makes them the 5th longest running team in F1.

    That's what I thought.
Renault has more years in F1 than Sauber, but with some interruptions.

True. And when I say Sauber, that's obviously a bit of a misnomer given the many name changes they had. But in its core it has always been the same team from Hinwil, Switzerland. Granted with that logic many others from the UK who underwent changes in ownership and name would probably qualify as well. @Isobel you're the one who can rattle off the various incarnations since Tyrell and Ligier. :)

The tires combined with that new slippery surface are a disaster, worse than Portimao, that will badly affect the weekend. Another occasion ruined by Pirelli being far too cautious ever since they had the multiple blowouts at Silverstone a few years ago.

F1 should ditch them for a COMPETENT manufacturer instead, bring back Michelin.

Sounds like a good idea. But, Pirelli bid on the supplier contract for a certain amount of time, correct?

Absolutely correct alas and it is sadly only a pipedream because the relationship between the FIA and Michelin was badly soured by the Indy GP fiasco plus Michelin have repeatedly stated that they would only come back to F1 in a tirewar against at least one other manufacturer, they are not interested in being sole supplier. Huge pity as they would have exactly the right tire range every time -contrary to those Pirelli clowns- and the drivers could attack flat out for the whole race out as the heavier LMP cars on Michelins do for at least the length of a GP.

Well on the flip side we will see a lot of spin-offs. So Seb won't be standing out too much like a sore thumb. :D
