Brother is not into getting Chinese. He thinks I'm crazy to go into restaurants with covid taking off here again. I'm taking my dad to the airport tomorrow, its in Richmond. City has 52% of its population originating from mainland China. It won't be Americanized Chinese food, but still very good.

Great simple meal. Exactly what my grandmother would make on a cold day for me.
Being of Southern Italian decent, she used a lot more rice in her soups than pasta.
    Did you add garlic?

I'll have to try that, assuming the Food Police (AKA the wife) allow it.

Getting the CI plancha super hot. It was > 750 F when the steak went on.

I was worried about all that bacon fat and a rocket hot plancha, so I swabbed the tomahawk in bacon fat before putting it down. 2" per side.

10 min rest under foil. Color looked great to my eyes.

Must have been tasty as the wife didn't complain about it being too rare.

Ended up doing beef taco pizza. Fish place was too busy, line out the door. I'm having sushi for lunch tomorrow.

My wife will tolerate more pink if it's a good steak. What you pictured is her ideal. The level of doneness that AzIt just posted on his tomahawk will 110% surely earn me skunk eye!

nah, back in WY (see the pic in my post yesterday with the smoker going in the snow!).

Was there for 4 weeks, but the lock-down was taking a lotta the fun out of it. (plus Ania needed to work a lot and I was..err..umm..."distracting" her).

    Any caviar fans?

I had a costco e-card that I had to use up this month and couldn't think of a single thing I need, so I was shopping their gourmet food section, looking at their fancy beef purveyors, and noticed they also sell Plaza Caviar products.

I used to live near Plaza Caviar and think their stuff is pretty good (I'm far, far from an expert). Anyways, costco had big discounts on their product. Bringing Osetra down to $33 per ounce (and that was before my e-card).

If anyone is thinking about caviar for the holidays, and isn't super-super picky or all that into it, their product at those prices makes sense to give a try. I loaded up and will have it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Yup. Like all Chinese it’s a PITA to get your stuff ready but it’s easy to cook. Kinda helps when you have a dedicated wok burner.

very nice! Honestly, it look intimidating. And the consistency of that sauce looks spot on.

EDIT: LOL, I just noticed your signature quotes...Funny stuff!

Yup, eat caviar lots...what kind are they selling? $33 an oz is about right on specials. Imperia caviar does that and caviar lover also. Seems I like the ones from the Amur river region between china and Russia.

their stuff seems to be all farmed, in Bulgaria and Israel iirc (and maybe even some in cali, but I only buy the other products). They have a decent selection. Not the best I've had, not the worst. I was just happy to find something to spend that expiring costco e-card on! I was a bit surprised to see that the prices for Plaza Caviar were far lower on Costco.com than on their own website.

Fatburger is great. My Saturday afternoon lunch, often, in the 90s when I lived in SoCal. Charbroiled cheeseburger with a side of rings and a Coke.

Appreciated finding a few Fatburgers in the northwest. Used to go to Redmond when I visited our Bellevue office. Pleasantly surprised to see one in Vancouver BC near the convention center. Sad they closed Federal Way.

I think they changed their onion ring batter recipe. I thought they were better in the 90s. Could just be me.

That's some kind of Asian - Cajun fusion magic! I like "let's empty out the fridge" night. Makes me feel like an Iron Chef, trying to whip up something tasty from somewhat random ingredients...T
