Have a potential dream car of mine in my possession and I’m trying to do as much research on this car. But 5 digit vins are not easy to trace.

The cars a driver, strong motor, and has potential. It will never be a show car and that’s fine with me as I drive my cars. I also wrench and have been going forensic on this thing.

What’s puzzling me is it has a QV hood and Spoiler so I’m assuming it’s a QV eng lid too. The steering column shroud ( that shows the vin) matches the car, but it’s cracked at the fasten point. Another thing I noticed is one non working cab fan shows 2/86 date.

    Theft/ Vandelism??

Can’t find anything on the frame that’s bent or rewelded, or looks fishy.

Glass is all orig, bad repaint, side lights filled, and rust in the usual spots. 88k ( cdn car ) No docs.

Is there some cross reference I can get pointed to. Just want to cover my bases before I commit.

The fully louvered engine cover came in North America with CAT equipment, in 1978.

The roof spoiler was a yes or no option.
Not sure when the front compartment hood got vents, probably later than the 79.

You could throw the VIN up here and someone might recognize it...
    A "B" or an "S"??

A shame they were not fixing panels instead of filling side markers....!!

Thx for the reply. It’s a S. I don’t want to get too specific as it’s not mine yet. It did start it’s life in western Canada.

Yes the front hood has lovers in the hood. Build dec78.

Air pump and smogs gone, as is vapour canister and single distribution. EFI too. Chokes disabled.

Single distributor marks a Euro car.
    Oh no, I see....EFI update....carry on.

A shame they dump the charcoal can, it never hurt anything....air pumps, yes they were needless...LOL!

That’s great news about the hood. Then it is orig. It came with smog and cats. 79 model.

One of my '77s had a rear wing, the other two ('77 and '76) thankfully escaped it.....

Im going to reuse this thread for a similar question:

Is there any section in Fchat where I can make a call for my unit's former owners?
    I do have some names

    Thank you!

There may be some confusion as to which panel "hood" refers to to, front spare tire bonnet or rear engine cover deck.

Yes, louvered front bonnet and roof spoiler 83, rear deck full connected louvers, '78 and later cat car.

Parts are easy to change, depending on the owners preference. One can make their icky outdated 2V car look like a QV, from a distance. :) I like the look of the bonnet louvers, but never bothered to source a late louvered bonnet.

A Thread with the actual VIN in the title should bring a response.

This tread has me somewhat curious:
A 1979 308 GTS with later (1983+) QV front bonnet and rear engine cover, along with EFI (I believe all injected 308's have some form of Bosch mechanical CIS)
I'd like to see pics of the Frankenstein (in a good way) and the serial number (if 1979, then should be in the 27xxx to 30xxx range)

Could be a flood damaged QV that has borrowed a '79 identity for the sale (or a crashed '79 that has borrowed a flood written off QV's engine, body, chassis...)

Nope, it’s a 79 made in Dec 78. Back frame, B pillar and steering column. She’s rough but drives. 4 Weber carbs and all.

But louvred front hood, and spoiler.

since the orig post I have been in the headlights louvred to clean and trace stock circuits. Can see the side marker deletes and I see a few seams I don’t think is stock. Also found a non working cab fan with a 2/86 date code..

I think this car was hit at some point and re painted black. I’ve found red and yellow on the frame...

also trying to figure out the crack on the steering colum.

Looking forward to the pics... the yellow on the frame is likely the factory high build primer.
