    This is why Prost always said he didn’t want his son to see his race live.

    Never lucky to be injured, but, looking at that car, it could have been so much worse

    Credit also to the marshal that ran across the track with the extinguiser towards the fire. Praise has been directed towards the Doctor and Driver, and rightfully so, but let's not forget that marshal (a volunteer), who was right there alongside the Doc. Even the Dr. (who helped the marshal get it started and directed) said the extinguisher enabled Romain to get out quicker.

    Well he got hit by kvyat. The true miracle is that he didn’t pass out from the shock. Based on his Instagram he has nothing. Miracle

    Grosjean is incredibly lucky. For one thing he was in the fireball for quite some time. No oxygen to breathe. He could have passed out. Smoke could have given him toxic gases. Next he picked by pure luck the way out. If you look you can see he tried to crawl between the armo. If he was stuck there he would never get out. Then he climbed over and jumped thanks to the medical team getting there just in time.

    Its unbelievable. The stuff of nightmares. Glad he appears to not be seriously injured.

    The Marshall was slightly delayed in activating the dry chemical extinguisher, but once activated did a great job.

    We use an acronym in the fire service for extinguishers

    PASS

    P= Pull pin
    A= Aim
    S=Squeeze the trigger
    S= Sweep as you aim at the base of fire

    The Halo may be ugly, but without it, Grosjean would have lost his head!

    Grosjean was the hero here! He's driving down the track and less than a second later he is wedged into a metal barrier on fire after going from 140 mph to 0 mph.....deaccelerating at 30-40 'G's'! Then he has to remove the steering wheel, his safety harness, drink tube, communications wire and extract himself from the cockpit with no help. All done within 18 seconds of hitting the barrier. That is truly amazing!!

    I agree. He got almost no help at all. Instincts I guess kick in but it would have been easy to panic.

    According to HAAS:

    It was a 53G impact.

    Grosjean's steering wheel collapsed upon impact thereby letting himself unbuckle himself and exit from atop the Halo.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/153842/grosjean-to-remain-in-hospital-overnight-after-crash

    Haas confirmed soon after the accident that Grosjean had sustained slight burns to his hands and ankles, and was being taken to hospital with a suspected broken rib.

    Haas later confirmed in a statement that all X-rays completed on Grosjean had come back showing no fractures or breaks, and that he would undergo treatment for burns to the back of both hands.

    The team also revealed that the impact speed was 221 km/h before the logger on Grosjean's car stopped, converting to 137 mph.

    Team boss Steiner gave an update following the race to say that he had spoken with Grosjean and he was in good spirits and confirming the Frenchman would be staying in hospital overnight.

    "I just spoke with him on the phone, he's in a clear state of mind, he's good," Steiner said on Sky Sports F1.

    "He's still staying in the hospital overnight, they want to keep him there. But he told me and not the doctor, he feels good, it seems nothing is broken.

    "He's got his hands bandaged from the burns, but otherwise he said he has no burns or nothing. He was very upbeat, I would say, so very happy."

    Just saw that. Amazing! Such a huge impact, he must have had the wind knocked out of him as well. Very surprising he was not knocked unconscious. They initially reported cracked or broken ribs but I haven't seen further reporting on that.

    https://www.racefans.net/2020/11/29/marshal-who-ran-across-track-reacted-on-instinct-masi/ as per forum rules; ***Warning*** the link contains swear words.

    “There’s a guy ****ing running across the track,” exclaimed Norris on his radio.

    “It was the last thing I was expecting,” Norris told media after the race. “The guy didn’t look left and right both ways before he crossed the road.

    “It was a double yellow [flag] and I was going slow enough because there was no point in risking anything at all. It wasn’t the most visible guy, because at that point, I’m looking to the sky, he’s wearing like pretty much black or dark blue and it wasn’t that easy to see. All I kind of saw was a bouncing extinguisher.

    Masi explained. “And I would have said, particularly under the circumstances of what happened earlier, the priority was to put the fire out.” “The marshals have a very clear instruction,” he said. “We’ve already debriefed about it immediately and will remind everyone you shouldn’t cross the track.”

    The story goes on to mention the marshal incident from the 1977 SA race.

    Holy crap! What an eventful race. :eek:

    I think he was expecting some issues ahead on the left side of the track and tried to quickly switch to what looked like empty track on the right. With the small mirrors on an F1 car, I wonder if he never saw Kvyat until he'd actually hit him. It's a miracle he survived such a heavy stop and intense inferno.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    A bad driver with eight formula one podiums.
    Again put Grosjean in a W11 and he will make a lot less mistakes.

    I think everyone is happy he is alive. Amazing that the front of the car actually went through the barrier and then that Grosjean was able to get himself out of that burning wreak and jump over the barrier. I'm not a doctor, but from the shots of him in the hospital, his hands and feet look they were burned more than just slightly. The doctor says that Gros lost one of his shoes getting out of the car. I think there is a chance he won't be able to drive the next race. And I think his family will have a long conversation with him about his future.

    I'm sorry I can't agree with that. He would be faster, but the mistakes don't go away with more speed.

    Sorry to disagree either,
    Just have a look and compare inboards images between the SF1000 and the W11 and no need to be a great driving specialist to understand how a stable car is primordial to extract good laptimes.
    Grosjean was less error prone with the lotus because of that.
