Anyone into racing simulators? I just picked up a wheel and pedal set to give it a try. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Because most steering wheel sets have an additional add-on manual gear shift. Racing simulators are awesome I put over 150,000 race miles on my setup, people wondered why I spent 2K on triple screens and building a arcade cabinet, but it ended up being about 10 or 15 cents per hour. Far cheaper than any race car I've ever owned.
Awesome!! What all did you have in your setup? I have a feeling I will end up building a nice one soon.
I ran triplexed Playstation 3s playing GT6 with 3 Samsung 19" TVs mounted at 60°angles for 180° I used a Logitech G27 wheel. I intended on swapping to a Fanatec setup and building a PC for IRacing and Assetto Corsa, but I moved on to other real-world time wasting before I got to it. The single most important thing I can recommend is finding a well organized league, even if you're playing with a game controller, a regular weekly race with consistent competitors is where the fun is. I'm actually keeping my eyes on Gran Turismo 7 for PS5, I may have to recommission the cabinet. I spent 20 mins digging for pictures but I don't think I have any right now.
Awesome! I just purchased iRacing and am giving that a look. Seems like a regular schedule for racing is on here which should help. Just wow, these things do not drive like I thought they would. I have already flipped a Miata a few times... don't ask me how.
I have a SimXperience Stage 5 pro setup that is what I use when I cannot drive in bad weather .... it is a pretty immersive experience for a sim.
I recently took delivery of a custom CXC simulator. Very realistic and addictive. Really helped me prep for Challenge school at Daytona. Highly recommended, but not for the faint of heart $$$-wise.
I have a Simcraft Apex 5 full motion system. Big investment, but I could not be happier with the system or the company. Here’s the link to my system : https://www.simcraft.com/apex-pro-5dof-racing-simulator-chassis-motion-system-yaw-pitch-roll-sway-surge-full-service/ Here’s the link to my dedicated Fchat thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/146364416/ Here’s my comprehensive review: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/146847685/ Here’s some pics: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Funny enough, your thread was what made me buy what I have. I want to test the waters on sim racing before going big.
My current setup...still waiting for a Sabelt Challenge seat, F1 steering wheel, and gated shifter. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It’s super addicting. I have stepped back from it in the last year for a variety of reasons, but mainly because my kids are a couple years from heading off to college and my simulator time was taking away from my remaining time with them. I will double back to it in a couple years. At that same time, I will probably acquire a purpose built race car for the real track experience.
Sweet setup. Looks like fun. Got to love the total immersion provided by sophisticated motion systems.
iRacing is head and shoulders above, but doesn’t have all tracks/cars. I run Assetto Corsa for the Challenge car.
G923 is a great starter wheel, my tip is get blue tac or a sticker to put on top of that annoying white light on the wheel. The biggest issue for the G line of wheels are the brakes, it's based on positioning of the pedal not pressure sensitive like load cells but you can get mods to make them load cell like.
Yeah, going to look into a way to fix the brakes. They are killing me right now. Tend to lock them up all the time since I can’t really tell how well they are working. Kind of a pain.
