Just to say, I did build one as per Andrews post, placed everything in a small black project case so it’s not too obvious on opening the bonnet. Works fantastically and can be removed and returned to stock in a few minutes. Easy to do, go for it.....

    Hi Drizzla,
Look at the photos that i took, connect direct to the battery with a fuse i have had the mod fitted for 12months now and its been flawless in operation, the standby current is so low that i could not detect the drain with a multimeter even when i fitted a shunt and ammeter to test for current drain in isolation it was a couple of milliamps, the computers within the vehicle are the main draw.

    Cheers Andrew

I assume vacuum side is hose, since it is plugged while the metal fitting is not? Thanks for all the great data! Much appreciated!

Finally did this easy and quick mod this past weekend to my Cali30 and love it! I get to hear that beautiful symphony from naturally aspirated v8 even more. I used a screw into hose (vacuum side) as others do, but placed a piece of electrical tape on both ends for safe measure before securing via zip tie. I plan to find appropriate sized vacuum line plugs and caps for even cleaner install. Thanks again for this great tip! Image Unavailable, Please Login

Found these assorted rubber vacuum line caps at O'Reilly (~$4). Gives a clean look while being functional. Still used a black zip tie for security. Thought i would share this update for those wanting the same...2 caps and zip tie. Love the sound. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Are there any negative impacts on the engine after using this method to open the flaps? Does it impact performance? Does it cause any other issues to the motor or other systems? Is there some other purpose for the vacuum lines other than to make the car quieter?
Thanks in advance for any advice. I’m interested in making my car sound better but not if it’s going to cause headaches (other than the welcome headache I may get from the exhaust note).

No negative impacts to disconnecting the exhaust vacuum lines to my knowledge.

The only problem I encountered was a terrible whining noise from the front passenger seat area, but that was just the wife complaining about the noise. Sounds great to everyone else though ( the exhaust, not the wife!!!)

Just want to mention that this is for the California.
I havent seen a post on how to do a similar approach on a California T.

And FYI, I pulled the vacuum lines on my Cali T and after 3 days I put it back to stock configuration.
With the exhaust valves unplugged it was way too loud at initial start up, humming noise at low RPM and drone noise at cruising speed.

I plan on installing a wireless exhaust valve controller as a next project.

The hose is on there pretty tight on my 2010 Cali and I’m of course terrified to damage anything. Anything special you guys did to get it loose or just pulled hard?

    Thanks!

Should just pull off if you support the bracket that holds the metal pipe it connects to.....

Was thinking to give it a shot with some brake line clamps first, as in just crimping it instead…
