Vince try cranking it again for a only a few seconds then go feel the starter wire.

if it’s fairly warm I think it’s your engine or starter.
Easy way to determine this would be check the starter
    Or again turn engin over

12.17v at rest is pretty much a dead battery.

Correct. I misread that as 12.7 V. 12.17 is only about 50 to 60% of full charge. If it's been on a charger for a few hours and it only comes to 12.17 V that's not good.

We have all been telling him to swap in a new battery since October 19th.
    Has he done that?

It is not the battery. I swapped it for the one in my truck which is a group 34 and is good. So I will see if I can get under it and check the starter and wiring.

So I had the car towed to my mechanic to diagnose. The problem is a failed cam gear bearing. Valves on divers side bank hit pistons. Engine is seized.

So can I ask what this means? I mean as far as repair, long term etc? As someone mulling classic F355 ownership this is the sort of thing that scares me away...

Just did mine and not done yet but likely in the 5000 range all said
More if you use all new parts
Read my thread but it’s likely not that bad but won’t know for sure until you start it.
Have not seen many bearing failures for last 15 years but maybe they will be starting.

    Expensive cars can break expensively.

Take all the necessary precautions. Try to find out as much about the car before you buy it. Without knowing the history of a particular car, whether it was driven hard, poorly maintained (whether high or low miles), recalls not carried out, etc, you will be taking a gamble. If you have your car serviced and owned by someone with a known (good) reputation, the odds will be more in your favour.

This is an unusual failure on a 355.

As far as cost, engine need to be torn down before a cost estimate can be made.

Ah I see thank you all. I was unclear when I read engine seized if that was even a fixable issue but understand now what happened. Sorry to the op and hope it gets in working order soon.

Wow. Sorry to hear this. That's ugly.

When was the last major on the car...and who did it?

Boy that sucks! Selling off the car as a project is a good idea. It gets you whole faster so you can drive your next car. Hope you don't leave for a Porsche. Either way you are going to loose money because of the failure. Getting clear of it as fast as you can is the best thing you can do. Fixing it armed only with your checkbook always takes longer than they say and costs more than the original estimates.
