Should you ever need to know, here's how to remove the instrument binnacle on an F430:

    1. Remove the two socket head ('Allen') bolts under the edge of the upper 'shade' cowl above the instruments, using a 4mm hex ('Allen') key
    2. Remove the 'shade' cowl by pulling it upwards - there are two spring clips under the forward edge (nearest the windscreen), so it just pulls off upwards after you've removed the two Allen bolts
3.Remove the five cross-head ('Phillips') screws underneath the lower steering column cowl
    4. Release the steering column adjuster lever, pull the steering wheel towards you and let the steering column drop to its lowest level.
    5. Remove the upper steering column cowl by first peeling away the leather trim from the front edge of the cowl (below the instruments) and then unclipping the upper cowl from the lower cowl, and place the upper cowl aside.
    6. The instrument binnacle is held in place by four Allen (socket hex) bolts: two are easily visible on its top edge (having removed the shade cowl) and two are on its lower edge, rather difficult to see, tucked in either side of the leather trim, forward of where the steering column upper cowl was. They all require a 4mm hex key.
    7. Once you've got those four Allen bolts out, protect the back of the steering wheel and surrounding leather trim with a soft cloth, then wiggle the instruments out, upwards and to the right, exposing the wiring loom.
    8. Unclip the four electrical connectors by squeezing upwards on the little clips on their lower edges and pulling/wiggling gently to release the connectors from the instruments.
    9. The instruments are now out. If you turn them over, you will see ten small cross-head screws that hold the assembly together.
    10. The instrument needles are a push fit and can by pulled from their spindles with care, by levering, gently and symmetrically, under the needle bosses.

Perhaps the moderators can put this in the 430 DIY and Technical section?

How scary of a job is this to do? Seems easy when reading the steps, but (for me) things are often more frustrating when you try them for real.
Were you changing to the yellow tach?

It wasn't too scary - just taking it step by step and going carefully. I'd previously taken the doors apart to replace the speakers, so I'd already found it was well built and comes apart well. Actually, I was replacing a km/h speedo face with an mph and km/h (i.e. UK style) face.
