Is it the reflection on the shaft or is there a nice groove mark dead on? Based on your question, I'm assuming there is no marks?
How did you get to TDC? Could you possibly be at "the other TDC". Is the mark on the shaft on the opposite side by any chance. i.e.8 o'clock instead of 2 o'clock on your picture? Maybe poste a slow video showing all around the shaft...

I Cant see the scribed marks on the cams. I only see the reference marks on the caps. They can be hard to see and are hair thin. I like to use silly putty and take an impression.

You can only check the marks at TDC as fotostars mentioned. The marks on mine were very hard to see and not a "line" but more like a wavy line made with a pin router or small engraver. My eyes arent the best but I needed a borescope to see them. If you have something small that can do good macro shots it may help.

Can't see any marks on those photos. Are the belts still on? Did the engine run before you opened? Is there paint marks on the pullies in the front of the engine?
I'll be frank: When I did my major, I didn't open the back as you did. I know it's in the WSM to check but I figured my engine is running well so I marked everything in the front of the engine and swapped belts. All good...

This is 1-4 in time on a 360. In my garage right now.
The scribe is dead center on the cam, and it looks to be in between the two flats.

When I do a new-to-me 360, I always find TDC with a degree wheel and mark the position at the flywheel so that I don't have to do that again. Then I do the cam timing with the degree wheel to WSM specs and THEN I make new paint marks at the front cam pulleys so I can find my way back if lost.

I just remember something. IF you are at TDC number 1 and your cams are like that, then they are off time by a lot. The flats on the cam ends are supposed to go into a factory cam holding tool in order to remove the cam variator at the other end. Therefore, they are designed to be in a certain direction like my picture indicated.

you shouldn't roll it back if you missed the marks. Just rotate it around again in the direction the crank spins and go slowly as the marks start to align

It may be time to seek someone that has done this before to come over and help you, or take it to a professional. These are interference engines and incorrectly performing the cam timing can lead to disastrous consequences.

I had the vice grips slip off on me doing the 1-4 bank. The intake cams snapped a few notches. Had to bring them back and it was hard because you’re fighting the valve springs. Used the old belt and the crank to pull on it. Lock them again. Then bring the crank back to where it was supposed to be.
Obviously only doable if you have good marks to start with.

Next time, I’ll use a proper generic cam lock tool. The vice grips are a little too dodgy for me (even though it’s Ferrari’s recommended toll per WSM)

I noticed there is no green dot on your variators...what year is your car, or do you have records of them being replaced?

I would look into that then. Looks like you may have the old style variators.

Can you see the date code? There's tons of info on the forum about this. If they are the old style, you may want to consider replacing them.
