Mayor I’ve exclusively been driving the car as a “kitty kat” and yes it’s fantastic but I’m at 300 miles and truly can’t wait to put the hammer down!

This happened in mid November at Tail of the Dragon (one of the most intense 11 miles of road in the US) which borders the Great Smoky Nat’l Park. I met this guy and his wife at the Tapoco Lodge literally minutes before this happened. We chatted cars for a while and exchanged seats - I sat in his new C8 and he in my 458. I ran the Tail up and back, and passed him on the way back as he was just starting out.

Apparently a Mazda Miata ran over the double yellow and hit him, forcing him off the road. Pic of him and his wife, and the Miata driver.

Glad he’s okay, but a hell of a way to lose a car. I hope he’s made whole and can get back on the road quickly......... Image Unavailable, Please Login

And the 458 on the same stretch of road. Luckily I didn’t meet the same fate.

After driving the Vette for a week straight the 458 steering wheel felt huge in my hands.

I rather like the square wheel and I thought I wouldn't.

I prefer the 458 paddles though. And the C8 wheel has too many buttons and dials.

I prefer the 458 paddles but I love the action of the C8 paddles mated with the transmission. Lighting quick. I can’t wait to drive it in anger.

the only button I find annoying on the steering wheel are the volume up and down buttons. My hand doesn’t go to then easily.

Mayor, question, do you have any issues with making phone calls? People can’t hear me clearly when I get/make calls in the car.

Went over 500 miles so I could push it. What a spectacular sports car. Near perfection. Not a super car in term of performance but as a sports car with the top down it’s beyond all expectations.

I like the top down experience more in the C8 than the 458 spider. The only car I liked better topless was the F430 spider because you could hear the gearbox slamming around back there. I wish the exhaust was a bit louder and I wish it revved higher but it is fun to drive. I miss the 458 motor but I think even 488 people say that.

I really like the front cameras when parking. Its never a worry you will hit a concrete block and its easy to see if you are in the parking lines.

Well after 13 months I picked up my car last Friday. Drove it 250 miles home and finished the break in 500 miles yesterday. So far the car is a blast and for all practical purpose it is a unicorn. Head turner , camera snapping , thumbs up car. Performance is a little scary so far but as I get used to it that will improve. In a sense it reminds me of my old 308 with 250 hp more. If you read all of the reviews they are all about spot on. Enjoy the ride.

    Competition Sales Comparison (U.S.)
The 33 percent jump in U.S. Chevy Corvette sales during Q3 2020 allowed the perennial sports car to remain the best-selling model in its class. In fact, the Corvette outsold all other rivals combined, including the Porsche 911, Porsche 718 (née Cayman/Boxster), Mercedes-AMG GT, Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class, Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, Audi R8 (see running Audi R8 sales), Nissan GT-R, Ford GT (see running Ford GT sales), BMW i8, and Acura NSX.

The Corvette accounted for 55 percent of the segment’s sales volume in Q3 2020. However, we should note – as we usually do – that most other segment contenders in this segment cost significantly more than the Corvette and, as a result, these higher-priced rivals typically see lower sales volumes.

The second-place Porsche 911 sold roughly 4,800 less units, a decrease of eight percent on a year-over-year basis, accounting for 14 percent segment share. All other models saw a segment share of 7 percent or less. It’s also worth noting that, along with the Corvette, the Porsche 718, Audi R8, Mercedes-Benz SL- and SLC-Classes, plus Nissan GT-R all posted increases in sales volume during Q3 2020.

The premium sports car segment expanded an average of more than 16 percent to 11,474 units in Q3 2020, meaning that Corvette sales outpaced the segment more than two-fold.

    2020 Corvette C8 Stingray Coupe

    The GM Authority Take
The increase in Chevy Corvette sales during the third quarter of 2020 is welcome news for several reasons. First, the last-generation model – the Corvette C7 – has been out of production since November 2019, while the launch of the all-new 2020 Corvette C8 got off to quite a rocky start. First, production was delayed due to the UAW strike toward the end of the 2019 calendar year.

Then, once production actually got underway, it was quickly paused due to the coronavirus outbreak, preventing the Bowling Green plant from building enough units to generate any substantial sales volumes. Specifically, the the Corvette C8 began arriving at dealers in limited quantities in March. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused production to be idled about a week thereafter, with less than 3,000 units of the C8 produced. C8 production started back up in mid-May, and very few units actually ended up making it to dealerships by the time the second quarter of 2020 came to a close. The increase in sales in the third quarter is hopefully a good sign of what is to come for the Corvette C8.

Moving forward, we expect Corvette sales to continue picking back up in the short-term, as long as production continues uninterrupted at the GM Bowling Green plant, which assembles the Corvette, at the GM Tonawanda Engine plant, which assembles the 6.2L V8 LT2 engine, as well as the various suppliers responsible for providing parts for the vehicle. In the medium-term, we expect Chevy Corvette sales to skyrocket as a result of strong demand, and very high levels of interest in the new mid-engine Corvette.

    2020 Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible

It’s also worth noting that the C8 Convertible recently went into production in August. Additionally, General Motorswill not fulfill all of 2020 Corvette orders as a result of the downtime caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the automaker will offer affected customers a 2021 model year car, though it’s worth noting that some 2021 Corvette features and package will see a price increase.

    About The Numbers
    • All percent change figures compared to Chevrolet Corvette sales for Q3 2019, unless noted otherwise
    • In the United States, there were 77 selling days in Q3 2020 and 76 selling days in Q3 2019
    • Corvette sales figures include all Corvette body styles, variants, trim levels and packages
    • Sales figures for Lotus, Jaguar and Maserati not available as those manufacturers do not break out information on a model basis

A year and a half after putting down a $1k deposit I picked up my C8 at the Museum this Monday. My car partner couldn't go, so another buddy joined me, and we flew to Nashville and rented a car for the drive over to Bowling Green Ky where the Factory / Museum is. We had to stop in Nashville for some Hattie B's Hot Chicken, and even on the 3rd from the hottest level it kicked our butts. Sweating, nose running, and smiling the whole time. Then a stop at Carter Vintage Guitars for a little pickin' and on the Kentucky.

We had the 7:45 am delivery time for our Museum Delivery, and everything went according to schedule. Took about 4 hours for our personal tour of the Museum and the 2014 Sinkhole exhibit, then going through the car with me, before taking photos and sending us on our way. As you leave the Museum, everyone around gives you an ovation. Some great historic cars (not just vettes) in the Museum, as well as a great history of America's Sports Car.

Headed out to Memphis, 4 hours away, and the car drove like a dream. Rides great, even without the magnetic suspension. The only issue was coming into Memphis, my buddy was face-timing his wife, and all of a sudden lights flashing behind us. A trooper pulled us over for the Move Over law, and I never saw him. My navigator said he might have seen the cop way off the road, but didn't think anything about it. Questioned me on if I was transporting the car, and after 15 minutes of checking me out, still gave us a stinking ticket. Welcome to Tennessee.

Stayed with an old ATO Frat brother in Memphis to break up the 11 hour trip to Dallas. On the next leg, while my buddy was driving, we crossed over the 500 mile break in period, where the redline goes from 4,000 rpm to 6,500 rpm, and I got that change on video. Just don't know how to post on in F/chat. He got up to 100, and it felt like 50mph. After a lunch stop, I hammered it down getting back on I40, and it felt similar to my 2009 ZR1, which was quite a beast. The exhaust opens up, and it is crazy fast. Feels as fast as the ZR1 or the 05 Ford GT we just sold. My partner and I were able to tell our wives that this $76k Corvette was free from our Ford GT proceeds.

After break in, you can use the cruise control as well, and was a little surprised it wasn't the type that keeps you off the cars you are coming up behind. Googled it, and it appears the size and weight of the unit, as well as the fact that the cars aren't often used for freeway driving, made it something they figured we could live without. Averaged 24.3 mpg from the Museum to Dallas, including a little in town in Memphis. 2 -9 gallon tanks on each side with equalizer tubes gave us 400+ mile range.

Looking forward to warmer weather, and warm tires so I can really feel what this thing can do. I am in absolute shock that Chevy can build a car of this quality for $76k. 1/3 of the competition's prices. We are on the list for a Z06 sometime in the future, but not sure how you can put more power down than what this car already does.

Forget what you think about Corvettes, these are a whole new ballgame.

    Here's my option list
LT2 Package Elkhart Lake Blue, Natural Interior
    GT 2 Seats
    Z51 Performance Package
    Front Lift option
    Base Wheels

I'm still waiting to see if they will put in a N/A flat plane crank in the back. If so, I'm all in.

I'm guessing the first variant will be the hybrid, then the Z06. So it might be some time before we see it -- or the hybrid may kill off the Z06.

I'm 100% sure I would not buy the hybrid.

The only reason I guess is political correctness at GM. They are moving to electric as fast as they can. Adding a 600 HP V-8 before a hybrid might be upsetting to management's "messaging"

Then again, Dodge added a 780 HP pick up truck this year -- and apparently the pre-orders are through the roof.

I think Z06 is pushed a year with how crazy sales have been. Milk the current platform, which is fine. Z06 should be unveiled in early ‘22 as a fall model. That’s my guess.

I think GM will crank out 50K of them this year and the market may still be a little short. But at some point, the market for 2 seat sports cars dries up. They need something for people to move up into.
