For a host of reasons, I wanted to wire my emergency top switch into the center console top switch in order to bypass the controller functions. No more worries about microswitches and potentiometers. Of course I still need to make sure windows are down, and seats are forward when lowering the top.

Without knowing what to do, I contacted Qavion (Ian) who provided me with a step by step guide, along with a wiring diagram that made the project simple. I'm sure there must be others who want to do the same, so here is a copy and paste of what he sent me:

"After disconnecting, capping and stowing the "plug", you need to (on the switch):

    1) add a jumper wire between pins 3 & 5 and attach the jumper to a local earth. If you can't find a good local earth, attach the jumper wire to socket #4 on the stowed plug. Use black wire to help with identification.
(as per Ian's suggestion, I added an inline 3 amp fuse in the black wire at socket #4 on the stowed plug; see diagram below)
    2) get 2 longish pieces of wire (different colours) and string them to the 6 pin emergency/bypass roof switch plug (the plug, not the switch). Disconnect the bypass switch and cap and stow the switch (as it will no longer be in use).
    a) one wire will go from roof switch pin 1 (the roof "close/up" command) to bypass switch plug *pin #3 (the one with the grey wire on it which goes to the close relay)
    b) the other wire will go from roof switch pin 2 (the roof "open/down" command) to bypass switch plug pin #6 (the one with a white wire with red stripe which goes to the open relay)"

I decided to cut off the emergency switch and use the balance of the harness to wire directly to my main top switch, With a plastic pry tool i was able to feed the wires under the right side of the center console and then thread up thru under the switch plate. (removing the passenger seat made this easy) Then I pulled the wires around from the side to the very rear of the console.

Works perfectly. Many thanks to Qavion .

Disregard this stupid suggestion  The fuse is essentially useless in this location. I think in my attempt to keep the wiring as original as possible, I put the fuse in the wrong part of the circuit. Anyway, the circuit should survive without a fuse (the original wiring didn't have one).

one additional note: with this rewire, the LED on the top switch will no longer illuminate.........no big deal for me. ...... ecstatic that I have bypassed that pesky controller and the top works perfectly.
