My car, a '98 model year (built Nov '97) has stock cats. I saw in a past thread that late 355 cats used a better converter material, but haven't been able to pin down when the switch happened. Trying to figure out what's in my car. Thanks for any guidance.

If you just want to visually look if it is ceramic or metallic. Use a bore scope camera like this. All you would need to do is remove one of the O2 sensors.
It doesn’t have to be a snap-on brand. You could easily find other cameras for less than $100.

Thanks -- good idea. I have a great boroscope, one of the $20 cams that plugs into your cellphone. My car has 37k miles and no record of cats being changed. Hard to believe they're original ceramic so I'm wondering what's in there.

My 99 had ceramic and had to be replaced twice within 10,000 miles
