BMW V12 in 355....how did they get the 355 Transaxle to work?

    There is a 355 in Europe with a V12 BMW engine mated to the 355 transaxle. The transzle in the 355 is somewhat unique with its splined outputs shaft that mates to the corresponding splined crankshaft on the 355. Anyone know how they did this? I ask because this is one hurdle to bolting the 458 engine to the 355.

    I would imagine there is an adapter plate in between the BMW engine and the 355 gearbox. This adapter plate has to be an inch or two thick. Within this space, I can imagine a custom propeller shaft that accepts the splines from the 355 gearbox and mounts to the back of the BMW crankshaft.

    Another 150 to 200hp and more torque (depends on which version is installed).....but the 7,000 rpm redline would definitely be a draw back, as would that amazing exhaust note of the stock 355 motor

    Yes that's what I am thinking but wondering if anyone has direct experience here or a specific solution as clearly someone has done it. Perhaps whoever engineered it is here on FChat?

    Not sure about specific dimensions, if I were doing this I would just draw it up and have it made. Probably would be the easiest part of putting a 458 engine in an F355.
