Just picked up an old Jeep Wrangler LJ for a fun toy (going to lift it, big tires, yadda, yadda). It's a manual of course. Backing out of the drive this morning, I went to shift it from reverse to first, pulling left and *down.*

That is where God (or your preferred deity) intended 1st gear to be.

On your other cars you ask if the glove box is supposed to prop open...

    My Fiat X1/9s do.

Funny also, I drove one of them the other day and as I stopped at a stop light I put it in second before I realized "wait a minute" and put it in first.

The 348 is the only dogleg first car I've ever owned although the first one I ever drove was a 928.

I owned my 348 TS for 2 years. It's the only dogleg gearbox car I've ever owned in 33 years of driving, and I never engaged the wrong gear once.

I guess somehow, that means I was never a 348 driver!

(I struggle to believe that Ferrari's test drivers ever had a problem with the dogleg gearbox layout either - I guess that means that they were never 348 drivers either!)

The post is intended in the spirit of fun I am certain, I chuckled myself, many times I have switched gears trying to turn wipers on as the Mercedes has the gear select stalk where my other cars have the wiper stalk. :)

    Good fun thanks for sharing.

... you coordinate your arms workout at the gym to be on alternate days to when you drive the 348.

Just wrestled with my Spider's steering wheel a couple times this morning. You aren't wrong.

Typically let the clutch out a hair and roll the car ever so slightly and it turns easily. In 52 years I have never had to crank the wheel while standing still on any car. Always had room to roll slightly at the same time. Makes all the difference in the world that slight roll while turning. :)

One can always add electric steering, kits out there for the 348.

It was super-tight quarters, unfortunately. Normally I do as you suggested, but this time I had to get it to opposite lock before moving.

    On early models...
Trying to fix the "squirrley" handling:
You think its the rear suspension so you add 25mm spacers... then replace the tires so you're running the proper size... inflate them to the right pressure... oh, and have a proper, weighted 4 wheel alignment done...
Only to figure out that it's the steering rack that needs a complete rebuild.

Only to figure out that it's the steering rack that needs a complete rebuild. - That's always the first guess. Pretty much every 348 needs that, the bushings are plastic and disintegrate. Once you do that then rectify the 2 inch lowered front end only that a PO did the cars are marvelous.

You know you've really become a 348 driver when you are the one leading the Ferrari Club run and when you get to the destination, the guy who was behind you in his 488 Spider comes up to you and says, "so there's no way that's a standard 348 right?"
Yes indeed, this is what happened last Sunday, of course I was working hard behind the wheel, but hey, I'll take the compliment!!
Here we were at a regroup...(I plot the club runs, and so lead the pack, its an awesome sight in the rear view mirror to see about 20 Ferrari's behind you.)

You pull into a gas station and instantly pop open the truck so you can pull the black lever to open the filler lid. I may be alone here as I never sorted out my solenoid / fuse blowing wiring in 17 years with my 348.

[raises hand]...you might be a 355 driver also.

(Sometimes the filler release button does work.)

Replaced the fuse and mine has been popping open correctly for a few months now ::knocks on wood::. Worked fine when I bought her, but stopped about a month into ownership, so I feel you.
