To remove the stereo in the car do I just unscrew the 2 screws underneath? It looks like 2 Philips head screws under that part of the console. Thanks,
That’s a shroud to cover the wiring harness. You will need to take the radio surround off, use the radio specific keys to release the locking tabs on the top of the radio that holds it into the radio cage and it will slide out. You can then unplug it and remove.
I don't think the unit as installed in mine has that. Mine has a dealer installed Alpine CDA-7832. There doesn't seem to be a place for a key to go in. I honestly don't need to replace the stere - just trying to pull it out so I can get under it to engage the stupid pin that turns on the ai-net port for a cd changer.
That black trim ring you see, its a trim ring" It snaps off perhaps? Grab it and pull, likely clips on both ends. Those look like releases on the right hand inside side. Release is then really thin on the outside of the metal sleeve you will see after removing the trim ring. Long and thin on both sides, same time you'll need. Sleeve-> Head unit -> trim ring -> face plate is how almost all of them are that I ever saw.
Ahhh makes sense. I tried pulling on that just now and it's not going anywhere. Any harm in unscrewing the 6 screws in that whole things and taking the entire pod out?
It comes off, you cant get the the cage release otherwise. You have to remove it from the cage to remove the cage. Good luck. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, it didn't just pull off... There were some like hidden scres on the sides you could only get to with the unit out?? So now the trim piece is broken...
The head unit should have locking tabs either side that need to be lifted (with a very small screwdriver or pick) in order to release the head unit from its mounting sleeve. Actually from your pic it appears that the locking tabs might be accessible without removing the trim ring. There may also be a support bracket attached to the back of the unit. Yep - that Alpine is ancient now... Anything newer will not only have more power per channel, but will include modern amenities, such as Bluetooth or satellite radio. Seems like this is a perfect opportunity to go shopping. While our 355 Spider has zero stereo equipment in it currently (we removed about 35 pounds of audio customizations over two separate installations), I can understand the desire to have a radio in the car.
haha it's definitely no longer state of the art! However, this was the original radio to this specific car. I have the manual with install date matching when the car was purchased so I'm trying to keep the car original. I also always hate a modern radio in a more classic car.
I agree mine is modern and I miss the nostalgia. The Continental-has a vintage look. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not a bad choice I suppose. I'm really hoping to find the right part for this since it was original to the car. Or a ferrari deck. I just feel it takes away from the car I guess?
Original in what sense, original to you? I am not aware that the 348 came with a stereo at all they were pre-wired for a radio and antenna and speakers, that's it. I believe they were all dealer add options until the 355 and that had 2 factory options over time. Another legit period radio would be the Clarion CRN40 deck.
Is this the correct deck for 97? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-XR-F21RDS-550-Maranello-355-F355-F1-Autoradio-Radio-Sony/324303273302?hash=item4b81fb3d56:g:vzIAAOSwOTZfaLxc
