yep enjoy, easy peasy now.
5.2 diagram here: https://www.dropbox.com/t/AjUjTijtMxDV9HkS Doesn't really tell you all that much. Two wires to each tweeter from radio, two wires from tweeters to doors. Doesn't sound too difficult Yeah, broken tabs, no glovebox.....
the wiring diagram shows, the 2 wires from the left side to the head unit are green, and violet/black. wires from the right side are grey, and violet. can someone tell me which of these wires are + and which are -.
Don't your current speakers have positive and negative on them? Or did you disconnect them and forgot which wire went where? I was going to suggest looking for a manual for the head unit (and see if the wiring diagram numbering matches that manual), but I'm not sure which manufacturer the wiring diagrams are based on. The diagrams seem very generic. Only the very early car wiring diagrams have plug numbering on them. Best guess... The tweeters have black and grey wires on them (according to the wiring diagrams). Black is traditionally negative. The black wire aligns with the purple-black wire. The grey wire aligns with the green wire. Green is traditionally associated with positive wiring. Audiophiles?
I did mine a few moths back. I recall colors meant nothing. I used a C battery at the radio side wiring and connected wires to the battery and then to the door. When + is on the door speaker positive terminal of the speaker will push out. When its reversed the door speaker will push in. Hence phase issues if one is right and one is wrong. Then I used ohm meter to detect constant vs key on power. What was left was ground I think it was brown. I don't recall but I do recall thanking myself for not relying on colors. Anyhow for the door speakers swap wires until you get the polarity right with a battery and then mark them for future reference. Takes 2 minutes. Tweeters I did not use so I can't comment there.
Ian, I did keep track of how the PO wired the speakers, I just wanted to verify that it was done properly.
FWIW: On my car, the green wire is positive for the left side/drivers side speakers, and the grey wire is positive for the right side/passenger side speakers. Would like to believe that the factory would be consistent, but..........
Like I mentioned, there was no rhyme or reason when I did mins it was just wires, colors meant zero it was different on both side for certain. Italians you know.
On my RHD 348 (by the way, is your car 348 or 355?), green & grey are positive for the left & right tweeters (respectively) but green & grey, as well as the negative wire colours, are swapped left-right for the door speakers. Obviously to do with moving the complete door harness from left to right (due to door and mirror switches being moved) but keeping the speaker wire colours unchanged.
Great thread, thanks. Got this job to do over the winter after I took this lot out!!!! Will also be wiring in a dash cam and a couple of USB ports! Image Unavailable, Please Login
