Forgive my ignorance but is a 1970 365 gt a unibody car or does it have a full frame like the 250 and 330?

Thank you for the info ,I believe transmission is in the back of the car , i have an opportunity to pick up a frame with running gear and considered doing a rebody , but I am unsure if I could build a 250 using a 365 frame

You haven't given us the full details. There isn't a model from 1970 called a 365 GT. It's either a 365 GTB/4 Daytona (4 Cam DOHC engine), 365 GTC, 365 GTS all with 2400 mm wheelbase or a 365 GT 2+2 with 2650 mm wheelbase (all 2 Cam SOHC). If the transmission is in the back, a transaxle, it's a 365 GTB/4 Daytona or 365 GTC/GTS. If a 2+2 and the transmission is attached to the engine in the front then it's a 365 GT 2+2.

What 250 are you intending to make?

You'll do better bringing it back to original spec.

It’s the early car 2+2 , not the Miami vice car , I am not sure if the transmission is in the back of car

The car is burned so bad the frame and drivetrain might be usable ,the body is unrecognizable

Your posts are confusing by saying it's a 1970 car with the gearbox in the back, but then you say it's an early 2+2. Does it have leaf spring rear suspension with a live axle or independent rear suspension? What exactly is it? It will have a chassis number on the frame and the chassis number will also be on the engine cylinder block to identify it.

365 GTB/4 Daytona has a separate engine number different to the chassis number stamped on the cylinder block. Also has chassis number behind steering wheel on top of the column.

365 GT 2+2. I know it's not the car but that one is RHD chassis #13441 which sold at auction in the UK in January, 2019 for £202,250.

Which model "250" are you looking to recreate?

Different wheelbase and suspension bits will make chassis a major redo.

Also, the block is pretty different.

Net-net, a lot of work, and you’d have a car that was still tangibly different from a 250...

If you need a body anyway, why not make it into a 365 California? Cool looking, very rare, and perfect fit on the wheelbase and engine/transmission. And the top goes down!

One guy in TX with a Queen Mary used it to build replica of the 375 MM Coupé Speciale PF Rossellini/Bergman 0456 AM.

It’s a left had drive , and it’s burned so bad , I was just thinking it would be a good candidate to b
thats a great idea , I am not stuck on the 250 spyder , the car is burned so badly the frame might even be usable , but with the paper and numbers it can be brought back to life , is the transmission in the back on this car or bolted to the engine ?

Transmission is bolted to the engine.

Another car you could recreate is a 500 Superfast which is an awesome looking car, which along with the 365 California had the same 2650 mm wheelbase and front mounted transmission, but 365 GT 2+2 has Independent Rear Suspension, that those 2 cars did not have, having leaf springs and a live rear axle.

    S1 500 Superfast.

Another awesome S1 500 Superfast, but with the 3 vent side louvres. In total only 37 cars (36 x 500 + 1 x 330) with this super exclusive body style were made for the super rich costing nearly double that of a 275 GTB. In case you were wondering what the S2 500 Superfast looks like, it was externally visually identical to the 3 vent side louvre car in this post.

Well, there has always been people willing to got through substantial amount of effort to build/create/own fake things, even if results end up appearing far less than authentic/realistic.

BTW, doesn’t this discussion qualify the thread into replica forum rather than here ?

Unless it's an early Daytona, where the engine number is the same as the chassis number.
