PBS "Motorweek" Program 40th Anniversary 'Car Of The Week'

Many of you might be familiar with the TV series "Motorweek" which is shown on PBS.

This season they've been promoting the fact that the year 2020 marks their 40th broadcast anniversary. And to commemorate this, they've been featuring viewer's cars as their 'Car Of The Week', inviting viewer's submissions.

Well, guess what. The year 2020 also marks the 40th anniversary of my 1980 GTSi, too (which I bought in 2003). So on a whim, I sent them an e-mail, noting that a 40 year old car for a 40 year old program seemed like a pretty good match.

Today I received notification from their production staff that my car has been selected!

No firm broadcast date has been offered, but guessing that it'll take a month or two. If any interest, I'll post the episode details here once known to me.

Since the feature looks like it takes about 1 minute to show, I suppose that I now have about 14 Minutes Of Fame yet to go in my life.

One of the unusual things which they have asked of me is an audio recording of a 'beep beep' from the car's horns, which they indicated would be worked into the program in some manner. Since mine are triple tone pneumatic Fiamm horns, it's quite the distinctive sound (the missus says that it's 'wimpy', but I'm not so sure).

So, if you hear something like that during the show, it'll be me.

Supposedly to be broadcast this weekend (November 21-22) - Season 40, Episode 11 !!

As they say, "Check your local listings for time and channel".

Just in case anyone cares, this particular MotorWeek episode (Season 40, Episode 11) will be rebroadcast on the Motor Trend channel on Tuesday 1st December.

Yup, I've been wrenching on a wide variety of Italian cars ever since I bought my first X1/9 back in 1978.

 

I've just now learned that this episode has been web posted for public viewing ( ... after you sit thru their opening promo commercial):

Honestly, I'm genuinely not trying to toot my own horn here - Simply posting the link here for my future reference, and as a FYI for anyone who might be mildly curious.
