Clutch / Brake Job 360

Even for OEM brake pads and rotors, $3000 for parts is too much.
Clutch parts should be less than $3500, $4000 at most. unless you are replacing the flywheel.
usually includes clutch, throw out bearing, clutch position sensor, a pilot bearing and some small seals which cost next to nothing.
but you'll have to replace the engine oil when removing the gearbox for the clutch job.
im not sure if your mechanic will accept parts provided by yourself

 

Agreed. Ricambi has the F430 Clutch Kit for 3,300 or so. I’m Assuming it’s probably close for that too on your 360.

 

FWIW: brakes are identical front/rear on the 360. I bought OEM rotors from eurospares in the UK . 4 of them with shipping for less than $500 total. Add 2 sets of brake pads of your choice (from $120-$250 a pop depending on brand/compound/etc...) , Your into it less ~$1000 , not $3000. It is also a very simple job, requiring about 1h if you go at it so would be ok to pay for 2h but no more... Look for a trusted indepedent in your area. Going to a dealer will not make you feel good about your recent purchase :-(

 

What are they doing for 4 hours on the brakes? If it's just pads and discs then it's way too long - 2 hours max is what it should take a competent technician (and that should include resetting the handbrake calipers and adjusting the cable). Obviously, if they're replacing the hydraulic lines then it'll take longer.

I charge a fixed 10 hours for a 360 clutch job (and make good money doing them) - 18 hours is an insane time.

Labor on the 360 clutch is (like @voicey mentioned) probably in the 10-12 hour range for an experienced Ferrari mechanic. If you're doing it at home, or for the first time, certainly it'll take longer. It wouldn't surprise me to hear of a DIY'r going at it for 30 hours (or longer!) simply because they might not have all the specialized tools on a rolling cart beside them, don't have a 2-post lift, etc. etc.

Either way, there are many many many skilled Ferrari resources throughout Florida to chose from.

 

The clutch kit from eurospares UK is incredibly good value and very complete - I got this kit when I did my 360 F1 clutch. It has everything in the bell housing down to the last nut, screw and seal including a new flywheel and ring gear. 2024 Pounds / USD$2700. A quote for parts at more than double, this is crazy. Find a tech that is happy to fit parts you supply.

It’s good to have that high retail dealer baseline when shopping prices.

I like to share the ‘savings’ w my other half to show how responsible I am w my f car endeavors. After which she generally suggests a nice meal at our favorite foodie place.

You will be shocked at the spread of range between dealer and alternatives.

ideally you form a lasting relationship w an honest qualified shop near you.

it is also nice to have the contact info for the shops preferred towing service in your wallet.

 

Get on You Tube and do a search on how to do a brake job on a 360. You’ll see how easy it is and you’ll get pissed when you realize how much they were trying to overcharge you. You’ll be able to do the brakes yourself with the guidance of You Tube and a mechanically inclined friend.

I can’t comment on the clutch job because I’ve never done one. Definitely go to a trusted Independent shop, never use the dealer. If I take my Chevy truck to the dealer it’s twice the cost for service as compared to an Independent shop. Find an owner/operator shop, you’ll get the best job done there.

Brakes are easy, they're just like any other car, you can do that yourself in just a few hours.

 

Brakes pads are easy enough to do oneself if you have a weekend day. It'll take you maybe an hour or two. If you want rotors.. that's maybe another couple of hours per side if you take your time.

Clutch needs transmission off. Bought friction disc at Ricambi I want to say and Hill bearing. Cost about $6k or so for the job at my independent all in.

 

Try calling either Eurospec or Ferran Automotive.

 

Brakes from our local dealer were $3900.
