Depends on the model but most new Omegas just don’t hold value.

Always buy second hand from a reputable dealer.

Vintage Speedmasters however are great watches for the money and hold or tick up in value over time.

Instead of new or a few years old, maybe find yourself a great tritium example from 1980s-early 1990s.

Great movements, vintage feel. Bullet proof. Can’t go wrong.

    Here is one I own.

I’ll put it in terms you can relate with....

    It’s like strippers Dave.

You think you have seen them all and then BAM, a new one shows up you can’t take your eyes off of!

    There’s always another one.

I'm now on my third 3572.50. I bought the first and didn't love it so I sold it for more than I purchased. I picked up my second after my brother bought one since I liked the way it looked on his wrist but I once again let it go for a profit. After kicking myself I finally picked up a third one last Spring for my birthday and I'll likely never part with it. I've found that it needed a leather strap from Hodinkee to really make me fall in love with it.

I guess the point of this is that both of them sold for more than I paid. Not huge money, but $4-600 ea. I also paid more for each of the three as this model specifically seems to have a bit of a following. It's similar to the 'sapphire sandwich' but still maintains the Hesalite crystal. Seeing the beautiful movement of the Speedmaster is an added bonus.

These are a few of my Omegas (the better ones along with two Ferraris from the Cartier era). Unfortunately, I have no better pics at hand since they reside in the bank safe.
I bought the two Seamaster Professionals second hand significantly below their original price and the prices increased since then if I compare to current listings. The old Seamaster Jedi and the Speedmaster Mark III can't be compared to their original price, but they are also increasing over time.
I wore the small Ferrari for many years daily and it has massive patina now - mostly pitting due to sweat.

I liken strippers to watches. You can't have just one.

Wearing the KS with a kanji dial today.

    Thank you all!
I'll start saving and lurking. I'm glad it sounds like I don't have to jump on it now.

    Thanks and same too you.

I now have the ‘Kasparov’ pair.

Famous Russian grandmaster chess player Kasparov (he played the IBM supercomputer back in the 1980s too), used to wear this reference 25860 with the blue dial.

Just before he would checkmate his opponent, he would take off the watch and set it on the table.

My new DD. The Mrs heard me say I wanted a manual wind watch I could read in the dark. I got this for Christmas. The gray leather tang strap it comes with is OK. The leather NATO strap it came with is junk. I put it on this until I decide on a more permanent replacement. It is a bit bigger than I would have wanted but so far I am liking it.
