This is the former Italian Rallycross champion Alberto Montagna 308 engined prototype, that during the eighties won many races in the Italian Rallycross championship. The engine is a tuned 308 2V wetsump engine, with Kugelfisher mechanical fuel injection, custom ignition, lightened cranckshaft and increased compression ratio with no head gaskets. Estimated power is 320+ hp.

Total kerb weight should be 600 kg (1300 lbs) or less: it's as fast as hell, seen with my eyes. The 308 prototype here below is pictured in a 1989 race at Maggiora (that he won) and and a couple of months ago at actual owner home (a friend) with Alberto Montagna himself aside the car.

    ciao

I don't think there's many 308 parts on that car!

You are right: they changed also the OEM gearbox with an Hewland. The engine is longitudinally installed too.

I forgot to say that the car is a 4WD.

But the engine still is a 308 one!

Maybe, very likely the front ones are Dino Fiat or Fiat 124 spider rims

Looks like 2 cobbled together BMW 2002tii Kugelfisher units not the bespoke ones fitted to the Michelotto cars, there is a blue Group IV car with a similar set-up (currently for sale).

Yes, sp1der: Alberto Montagna was a good driver and a very good tuner who did miracles with a low budget. I asked him: "Why didn't you take a dry sump engine, instead of that wet sump, that's not suited for rallycross continuous shacking?" He answered "The sponsor gifted me that. So we developed a custom system with some flaps to avoid oil shacking and let work well the oil pump." Everything on that car is custom made with low money but big knowledge and intelligence. It's really amazing how they did a race winner and powerful 4WD car with such a low budget.

    Ciao
