Car battery went dead and it sat for a month.
I just installed a new battery and the car will not start. The engine does not turn over. No noise from the starter. All idiot lights come on inside the instrument cluster. FCS was posted in the middle.

It’s odd the window does not drop when I open and close the door.

Any ideas what I can try and look for ?

    Thanks.

Was the new battery fully charged prior to installation (or after)?

The idiot lights don't need much power, but window motors and starters do.

(EDIT: Another thought... Did you use the battery cutoff switch and forget to turn it back on? If your trickle charger (if you have one) is still hooked up, it can supply enough power for dash lights.)

    Ian,

No clue if the new battery has enough juice. I have a battery charger. I will hook up the battery to the plug-in battery charger. Thanks for the idea.

As mentioned in my first post I found it odd the driver's window did not drop with the new battery.

I turned the knob located next to the battery.

I guess I need to pull the battery and take it back to Pep Boys and ask them to charge it.

I do not want to jump it with the cables.

I'm not familiar with that jump starter. If you hook up the jump starter to the battery, will it tell you the state of the battery?

Purchase a CTEK or similar battery tender/reconditioner and leave the car plugged into one when not using it. These cars eat batteries when sitting for some reason.

    I do not know.

Tomorrow I will return the new battery and have it re-charged at the store. It's a pain but it is much safer and will protect the electronics from a sudden surge. The jump starter may be dangerous in this case.

Disconnect the leads and charge the battery in place. Get one of these so it doesn't go flat in the future. https://www.batterytender.com/battery-chargers. Those tenders have short leads, which is fine if you leave the plug near the battery. For a front bumper install, you can grab a 6 foot extension from Amazon.

    Thank you.

My motorcycle has a battery tender.

I need an example for the car.

CTEK seems to be the most popular with relatively few problems reported, but you can go upmarket e.g.

    https://www.batterysaver.com/store/p77/9950.html

Some handle a variety of battery types.

Just use the forum search function (with searchwords like tender, CTEK, trickle charger, battery conditioner, etc). Probably best to use the advanced search function and choose most recent. I'm getting hits from 8 years ago, so the tender models may no longer be available.

On 550s, if the alarm or immobilizer is activated, a 550 will not turn over. On a 575, it will turn over, but not start.

Returned the brand new Champion battery, to Pep Boys.

The battery did not hold a charge.

    It was a dud.

They ordered a new replacement battery for me.

I almost had the car delivered by flatbed, to the shop :(.

    What a waste of money.

    THANKS Ian !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bizarre. They certainly don't make batteries like they used to.

Glad to hear the problem wasn't too serious.

    THANKS

It gets better. The store ordered the second replacement battery. I installed the second replacement battery that replaced the new replacement battery. The generic immobilizer battery then went down. I had to replace that. Everything worked in harmony.

    Thanks M8

I don't know how long these immobiliser siren batteries last, but I've had my car for 5 or 6 years, so I'm going to change mine in the near future.

    Thanks for the update.
