I can tell you that is far from the case. Shadow and I have some great PM conversations back and forth, which include talks about our Pistas, my F8, and 488. Our viewpoints have to do with what we use the cars for. What both Shadowfax and I oppose is the notion some seem to have that an F8 and Pista is virtually the same car. I don't have any reason to fight the F8, I like it and have one on order, and I know Shadowfax respect it for what it is. I as an owner of both, would be crazy if I knew they were the same car, but chose to disregard this and get both. Shadowfax who is a seasoned track rat views his cars from that track oriented perspective. When using the car like this, you get into some situations where you really start to see how different they actually are, and you get acquainted with their weaknesses. One thing is speed and suspension settings, the former is not that different, the latter more as the added firmness of the Pista is easily noticeable. But one place where they are light years apart is their ability to change direction for instance, and also how Ferrari has set up the brakes. They share the same brakes, but they are set up differently. This is somewhat subtle when you are on the road, but take both cars to a small technical track to test the cars ability to shift or take them to a track like Spa and burn through a set of pads in a day, and the difference really becomes apparent. This is also why I have my reservations on the mediocre Ferrari brakes, am annoyed by Ferraris choice to dial in a ton of understeer etc. I don't care what it says on the tin, if I don't like something about a car, I get rid of it. We as customers, enthusiasts, and drivers need to be vigilant and up-front about the flaws and weaknesses our cars have. Just because it's a Ferrari, does that not mean it's perfect and that we should not be critical. I sold my Pista Spider because I did not connect with it and I found a coupé was better for me. Now while I'm talking about this from a track oriented perspective, there's a catch. Once you found these differences, it is virtually impossible to ignore them, and you are aware of them on both road and track. It's like Ferrari with three different yellow nuances within one square foot. Order a Ferrari in Giallo with shields and yellow calipers, and you have three different yellows that clash. It is subtle, but it is there. Once you've seen it, you cannot un-see it. Once you've experienced what a Pista can do, or how good a Porsche with track pads can brake, you will always be aware of it. Now all that critical stuff aside, I am a Ferrari man at heart, and no matter the car, there's always something special about getting in behind the wheel and see that little yellow emblem in front of you. The cars each have something different to offer and that's the beauty of it. In other words, comparing an F8 to a Pista, is just as much of a disservice to the F8 as it is to the Pista.
Thanks for the words Il Co but this is just one of those cases where buddy and pals just like having someone they can pop their boot into and frankly I'm perfectly fine with if that's what it takes to make them feel a little bit better. I've never once said I don't like the F8 least of all have ever said its rubbish but as you've now found these fellas love using someone else's words and/or descriptions, turning them into something negative which they can then vent their anger towards in a bid to justify their positions....whatever they may be. I'd say they know full well there is truth in what's been said but just feel a bit sore that the grass which they haven't chewed on could actually be greener the other side of the street. I also couldn't count the amount of times money savings has come up as being part of their purchasing decisions - as a some form of justification - which sadly doesn't appear to have eased their pain as they must have first hoped. Anyway....se' la vie. Happy days is all I can say. They should just be happy with their own lot and not get so caught up in these types of comparisons when others who have experienced both cars articulate their experiences in the course of answering an OP. As you know I've always had a level of respect for the F8 and enjoyed my time in it..... also completely understand why in your case having other cars you've opted for an F8 spider to even further distance what you have found are two already different experiences.
Dead on the yellow. Once you see it you cannot unsee it. That why I limited to one Yellow on my car the shields.
Blah, blah, blah same crap comes out of your mouth each and every time. Did you even read my post? I said the Pista is a more engaging drive but if someone doesn’t want a Pista over an F8 you just can’t stand it. LOL I guess trying to make everyone want a Pista over an F8 makes you feel better. You have the right car for you and I have the right car for me.
Sure glad im not the cat or dog in your household - poor thing would be kicked to death by now! And no need to keep on repeating the same old justification. Its irrelevant. The OP was not about why you personally chose what you bought. The question was clearly specific and its really only those who’ve experienced both who are able to properly answer - which pretty well cancels you right out sorry to remind you. If you are unable to deal with what those here qualified to answer have said - which clearly appears to be the case - is really not our problem so please stop trying to beat down on those who are only obliging the OP. If you were as indeed as happy with your own lot as you say you are then you should be able to put your agro to bed. It cant be healthy for you to be in this poor state of mind all the time either. Just saying....simmer yourself down....if not just for your own sakes and your cat and/or dog.
My vote is keep the 812 and flip the F8 and buy a Pista with some miles on it. I mean, when you are already at the top, you can pretty much only go sideways. Ray
Exactly my same belief and thought process. We both could have afforded and own one. We didn't want one because it didn't check our boxes. Both cars are great in their own right. The Pista is too aggressive and in your face and just like you mentioned, the boss, didn't like it either. Since I am not tracking it, why other getting a track focused street racing car for the street. Doesn't mean I don't like the car or won't give it the merits it deserves. It is recognized as such. A beautiful beast.
A-freaking-men!!!! What a nice write up. And this, ladies and gentleman; is why we are here. Very well written and worded. Thank you!
LOL I’d hate to be a person around you because if they didn’t fall in line with what you think they would be kicked around. Get over yourself already you are not the end all and be all that you seem to fool yourself into believing. Your the one that needs Simmer down there Junior. Back on topic OP you should keep your 812 and take delivery of your F8. Unless you want something more hardcore like the Pista. Point is only YOU can decide.
Time for a group hug! There is plenty of space for everyone and their opinions. Come on. I don't always agree with everyone, but I can read/listen and not say anything (i.e. take the high road); and if I do, I remain respectful. God knows that I don't always agree with Shadow, but he has knowledge and experience that I don't have. He may be right on some things or most; but some of those things just aren't necessarily my cup of coffee (I don't like tea). I may disagree, I may state so, but I move on and try to look for common ground instead of those things that tear us apart. No need to make it personal from either end. Buddyg, well yo u are just a huge tedddy bear with a beasty man beard that everyone hates you for it because we can't grow it like you. We are all here for and by the same thing that united us and it is the passion for cars. In addition, there just is no sense in doing this as it makes us, on the outside a little uncomfortable. Shadow, you go to the "Snowy Mountains" and Buddyg, I know you got plenty of snow and take the heat off in the snow, Make a snow angel or something.
Just find it odd why someone supposedly so happy has to jump in crying all the time posting off topic personally directed posts instead of offering an opinion or advice based upon actual experience - I certainly couldn't give a flying sausage what he opted to drive or anyone else here for that matter. I mean why would I? Their choice - nothing to do with me, but he seems to think I care. Maybe the fact I DONT care is what's eating him up? All I've ever done is sought to oblige an OP by offering an opinion or advice on the matter based upon actual experience. Maybe if Buddy tidied himself up he might be able to think a bit clearer and gather up his bunch of proprieties.... and stop being so antsy over nothing. Ridiculous! So far all he's managed to do is derail the thread and behave badly.
Depends. Is it Arancia Tripolo Strato or Viola Hong Kong? Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Ok whatever your the one that started talking about me kicking my dog or cat LOL. I guess that’s not behaving badly? I’m done arguing with you just a waste of time and I could care less what you think. So go ahead and get the last word in because I’m sure you will have something to say to make yourself feel better. OP good to be able to have these kind of choices, love the 812! Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Back to the topic. Got both Pista and F8. Both great cars on their own. When you compare they both have their strength and weaknesses. Pista hardcore especially the shifts feels like a hammer while the shifts in the F8 is more refined. Sound is much more in the Pista as well as road noise. F8 quieter and more comfy. Power wise both the same. Cant tell the 1/2 sec difference on the street unless tracking both cars on a regular basis. Pista has the more aggressive looks with all the aeros while F8 looks sharp like a knife. Just got rid of the Pista this month. Other toys incoming on the way. Pista values dropping fast. Maybe should stabilize somewhere slightly under msrp. I always found to be taking the F8 out more than my Pista. F8 will drop value as well more than Pista in comparison but heck it’s cheaper too. So these cars are like apples and oranges and it’s a personal taste what you like. Cant go off someone else’s opinion. Hope this helps! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Thank you for all the replies and I did not want to start the friction between members as we all have similar enjoyment from these cars that I never thought we could have. Competition has made us all winners. Thank you for all the differences between the Pista and F-8.For me I think it is coming down to whether I want the 812 replaced with the Pista. My ordered F-8 is bring me more excitement than I would have guessed. I ordered the standard OEM wheels and had the dealer order the Pista (TDF look) wheels for the swap. I appreciate the member who started the Last Pista thread for this idea.
My dealer put CF wheels on their demo - looks amazing and reduces unsprung mass for those track days chasing after Pista's ..... ooh, did I actually type that Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same here, so they make the perfect F8 winter wheel ..... to put on and look at in the garage, while the 812 gets dirty and goes sideways to the shops. I’m not joking
Ive got two of the four... (F12 and Speciale) and will NEVER CONSIDER selling... well... you know what I mean.
