I spent a truly wonderful day as the passenger in Ex Works and Ex Ecurie Ecosse Long Nose XKD 603 and I found it to be absolutely fantastic. One of the best days of my life. Thank you, Mr Beecham.

Thank you, that shows much depends on the driver and that Clive B was a much better smoother driver than the quite harsh and actually inexperienced one I was dealt that day.

I tried to identify find photos of the D Type brought by Jaguar Heritage I rode in at 500 Ferraris against cancer 2019 but had no photos (all my articles have been on Maseratis and Ferraris I know nothing about Jags). I just caught this ride on the spur of the moment because those people were in the same B & B as me and offered it during breakfast, all very casual, stating I should try something different for once so I was glad to accept. I took no photos though, busy day.

    it could be this one:

    https://www.jaguarheritage.com/car/1954-jaguar-d-type/

    or this one

    https://www.jaguarheritage.com/car/1956-jaguar-d-type-long-nose/

To confuse matters there seem to have been two or three of them a the event but I do think it was this one:

    https://newsdanciennes.com/sport-et-collection-2019-joyeux-quart-de-siecle/#jp-carousel-130124

Same car but in 2017 or before:

    https://www.facebook.com/sportetcollection/photos/pcb.1527700417343085/1527700000676460/

In any case from what you were saying it compares a bit to 917 and 512 in a way, 917 faster but 512 more pleasant to drive, more efficiency does not always mean more enjoyment.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, I still wonder about the tail lamps. Ones in Fuller magazine are larger and of different shape implying different size sheet metal aperture for the lamps than those on the car during race and in subsequent photos.

That is one beautiful piece of machinery. Quite a history too. I think this one, and certainly others of this era, are why we are all enthusiasts. The man was a genius and artist. Thanks for sharing.

It's the car used as the 1959 Prototype 250 Testa Rossa shown at the press conference in December, 1958, though it had a flat top to the hump behind the driver, whereas it's curved in the 3rd picture of the Fuller Brush article. Also referred to as a 19581/2 250 Testa Rossa it was much like the envelope bodied 1958 works cars but with Dunlop disc brakes, an extra round vent on the front and the perspex carburettor cover. By the time the TR59s were raced in 1959 many more changes had been made. There is confusion over which car this actually is but could very well be 0726TR as it does not have external door hinges which 0704TR, 0728TR and 0746TR had.

Works 0728TR differed to the production/customer pontoon 250 TRs having a 4 speed crash rear mounted transaxle, de Dion rear suspension, and from the Nurburgring '58 was updated from pontoon bodywork with envelope bodywork. The production customer pontoon 250 TRs had a front mounted 4 speed synchromesh gearbox and a live rear axle.

Other works 250 TRs with a rear mounted transaxle, de Dion rear suspension and envelope bodywork were prototype 0704TR, 0726TR and 0746TR which was initially a 296S. 0726TR was converted to envelope bodywork for the 1958 Targa Florio and 0704TR for Le Mans 1958. The first 250 TR, 1957 works prototype 0666TR was born with beautiful fully enclosing bodywork similar to the 1957 4 cam Sport cars, and later converted to pontoon bodywork, was not developed with a transaxle, retaining its front mounted gearbox, or the 1958 enveloping bodywork.

Yeah I noticed the absence of external hinges too but chalked that up to retouched photos. Probably not 728 and they simply applied #14 for purposes of article (without a roundel btw)

I did some research years ago and concluded that it must be #0726.

Wonder how many laps Phil did during photo shoot that day? People are standing in background of cover photo and appear to have lost interest and sat down in shot from post #33

Could well be 0726. However, do you have any clear pics of 0726TR in 1959 when owned by Lino Fayen in Venezuela and raced by Ettore Chimeri who was fatally injured in it at the GP Cuba 1960? It looks different to The Fuller Brush article car and the December, 58 press car in the small and not very clear pics I've seen, and with a metal carb cover.

Easy to change the bonnet, fill in the round vent hole and change the disc brakes back to drums. Ferrari may not have wanted to sell the car with the disc brakes either(?).

Coming from Maranello up the hill towards San Venanzio, Via Abetone Superiore SP3, towards the old Ristorante Gatto Verde.
He's a photo of the same corner (I took this in 2011). Cobblestones are gone, unfortunately.

Doug Nye in both his Cavalleria books Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and Ferrari 250 TR59/60 states the TR59 prototype as 0726 which had minor bodywork mods including to the headrest and a perspex cover over the carburettor inlet trumpets like the Dino 246 Formula 1 car.

Nye also states that 0726 was used for testing the Dunlop Disc brakes, Dunlop tyres and was unveiled as the 1959 Testa Rossa prototype at the annual press conference on 9th December, 1958.
