I see these have 2 oil filters like a few other ferrari's of that era. Anybody know why this was? Filters not as good back in the day compared to today? Dig that 8 track as well.
Modern Ferrari V12's have two filters too. In a single filter situation, if the pores of a filter paper element become clogged through build up of particles, the core will collapse and cause a dramatic drop in oil pressure - nothing gets through. nb. this is why the oil pressure pickup is always downstream of the filter. Two filters means slightly greater flow and if an element collapses, you don't lose oil pressure. I think it began for reliability, especially for endurance racing, and has remained in part for tradition and in part for packaging - the dual filters on a modern V12 are quite small.
