I have searched the forum, and found various references, but no clear answer to the question below.

I need to repair/replace my alternator. It is an original Bosch unit.

Can anyone recommend a reputable source (and fair priced) to either rebuild my unit or to get a replacement unit?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

You might be better off posting this in the North Central section.

I don't know if a 78 GTS and a 80 GTBi use the same alternator, but I just installed a rebuild Fiat Spider unit from O'rielly Auto Parts and it was identical to my old alternator. I think it is still a 55 amp unit though. I am very tempted to try and install a GM 100 amp one wire alternator on my 78.

Oh yeah, the core charge was cheap, like $15, so I just paid it and kept my original one.

Hi, in the sticky thread about part sources, I found this. I just bought one but it has not arrived yet. It should be here tomorrow or the day after. I can post my impressions if you like.

I couldnt get the link to work (maybe something wrong with FChat again with links?)

However, is there a fiat equivalent replacement for the 83-85 QVs? Anyone?

    I'll check the sticky too......

+100 I'd prefer to get a 'new' Bosch replacement for the 83-85 QV cars, with a slightly higher Amp rating....can anyone recall the 'stock' Bosch part number?

I used the 13152 Worldwide alternator on my 79 308 and it works fine.

I understand - however, because of the EFI system that carb cars don't have, our Amp requirements hover in the 83-85 range. Its a known fact that QV/3.2 litre cars have larger, higher-output alternators than the carb cars do - but I don't know what mine is compatible with, replacement-wise.

I received the 13152 alternator. It is identical to the original. The pulley has to be changed and it took 30 seconds. There are no markings on it. The voltage regulator is there.
For the $ 36 plus 8 for the core it is worth a try.

Can anyone confirm this will fit the early 308? For $42 and I can keep my old alternator this is well worth it.

I used that 13152 alternator in my '75 GT4 and it was _exactly_ the same as what I pulled out. But you can't use that alternator on an FI car because the FI needs more power, right? Well, I agree that it should especially since CIS K-Jet uses heaters to run everything, but my GT4 has been "upgraded" to CIS FI and the alternator keeps up just fine, even at night. If I had a GTXi I probably would go for the bigger alternator, but I might try the 13152 because for $45, it could be worth a shot, especially if your night driving with highbeams, low revs and slow speeds with the AC on full while running the defroster stays to a minimum.

And I, too, thought about a GM 100 watt alternator, but since I have no stereo and the car has so little electrical stuff I didn't think it would be worth it. I did this on my Scirocco, though, and it was better and cheaper than the stock unit, but I also had an amp that would dim the headlights when the volume was up!

I have used Kaestner Auto Electric in WI. Alternator was stepped up to 110A. Cost with shipping was $319. I'm very happy with the work that they have done and great people to deal with.
