Epic! It's good to see that none of the plastic bits have self-destructed. Hope you were wearing a biohazard suit when working on that gearbox What did you use to lubricate the gears/contacts?
Can anyone share how to remove the arm off the shaft to get the motor out of the bracket? I have all loosened but nervous to "force" the metal arm off the splined shaft but maybe I just need some brute force?
From what you're describing, if the motor is free just insert a long screwdriver behind the arm next to the shaft and give it a little gentle leverage. Or sometimes these things just need a gentle tap with a small hammer on the end of the spline whist holding the arm, that would knock the motor back assuming it's free of its mounts. No brute force required just some gentle taps.
I used some gentle nudging with a screw driver.. and pulled the shaft out of the plastic gear... but was able to disassemble and press the shaft back in... seems to work well now... I just need to test that it works now!
