Did the actual shift time go down from 150ms with the updates?

I as a human can't tell you how much time between shifts, but 2008+ definitely improved on 2007 models

Is this just a software update or is different hardware involved? I have a 2007 F430 Spider.

hardware involved, including, but not limited to : wiring harness, TCU, additional sensor(s), etc. No simple way to get it to 2008 level. And not all 2008 models are improved version.

The change happened in later half of 2008, or so I remembered.
the tell tale sign is to look at the TCU. changed version is CFC301, pre-2008 is cfc231.

I've owned a 2006 F430 and a 2008 F430. I do think the 2008 shifts a bit nicer, but hard to tell. I also noticed when you first start it defaults to auto until second gear kind of easing slow speeds.
