It was built by Lotus as a submission to Ford for the Le Mans project, but lost out to the Lola Mk6, which became the GT40. It was designed to take a V8. Not the prettiest thing to come out of Hethel, but good dynamics, and spawned a couple of good GT cars (47 and 62, I think), and evolved into the Esprit, which was a fabulous looking thing (still is).

The Europa Special fixed a couple of wrongs,as you'll be aware,firstly headroom and secondly getting back to it's Ford twincam roots. I reckon they're terrific and if I hadn't have gone down the roads I have recently..........
