I wish him well. I think this would have happened sooner if he weren’t driving for his father, but I don’t see that as a negative. He seems like a decent guy but I think he just doesn’t have the fire in the gut like his father and grandfather. I hope he succeeds wherever he goes.

Or was he in the cockpit not because of his talent but because of his last name which gets eyeballs.

Maybe, but I think it probably had more to do with family than with money. I’d like to think so, anyway.

Certainly a career that did not live up to the hype when he entered racing.

Will never forget, Marco took a Skip Barbour course at Sebring and gauging by the amount of attending
media and the resulting articles and TV spots, you would have thought it was the resurrection. I was
there that day photographing a test for one of the top sports car teams with the top drivers of the time
and you would have thought they were invisible given all the attention Marco received while learning
    the ropes that day.

There were certainly a lot of very high expectations and a lot on his shoulders from a very early age. Pity,
even the name and being surrounded by the some of the best guys in the business as team mates and
engineers in his corner he never quite lived up to the hype.

Pole position at Indy certainly was a great accomplishment. But, at the green flag he went backwards
down the order. Can't help but think had he pulled off the victory at Indy in 2006 vs. Sam Hornish instead
of losing out by an eye lash his open wheel career may have been different.

so is there an empty seat at Andretti Autosport or is that car being shut down? losing Leader Circle money is $1.5mm or something like that. would be a shame to see that car go away, lots of guys that are deserving of that level of equipment.

I feel bad for Marco, I do think Indy 2006 was demoralizing to some degree. From everything I've heard he's great at the business/sponsor side of the sport and is a behind the scenes team leader, hopefully he'll find more success elsewhere in the sport

Haven't seen anything addressing that question.

You'd think that Andretti Autosport would have a contingency in place for such a situation
    for the upcoming season.

Looking at the lap times from Sebring yesterday, Marco was there and dead last in a field
of 9 including most of his team mates.
