Yes, very sad. Also nothing has been done to prevent it in the future with other museums. Public investment in culture here is marginal and getting lower, and not enough incentive for privates to step in.

Anyway, I don't believe the Austrian fire was arson, probably just bad luck and bad management.

People saying a 250 California also? Or did they just don't know the difference between a 275 and a cali?

I heard that rumors too, but didn't find any evidence. No pictures, no mentions on their site, nothing.
Maybe someone couldn't tell difference between Austin-Healey od 275 and California Spyder....

I would understand the reticence of a museum owner to install fire suppression systems, but in a car/motorcycle museum? :(

Not even a question of "self insuring" when dealing with irreplaceable artifacts, and to gearheads, that's exactly what these cars and bikes were.

Screw the building codes. If you're gonna house your museum/collection in a wood frame structure, you owe it to posterity to install a state of the art fire suppression system.
Look online for a video of a USAF Hangar where somebody accidently tripped a foam suppression system. The entire hangar fills in seconds. Yeah, i understand that once this system activates and empties, there's no backup if the fire restarts, but it still mitigates losses and gives the local FD potential to respond.
I'm appalled at this oversight. Hopefully, other collections around the world will take note, but probably not.

    Hallo Mr Massini,
it is very seldom that you are wrong. But in this case you are. That picture is on my cellphone and it shows the car LEAVING the museum. The picture you mentioned was taken at 08:55 that morning, the other picture attached was 08:47 on the same day. :)

So does this mean the 275 was spared? I sure hope the 8C2300 wasn't lost

As far as the research goes with the fire the cause is an electrical fault in a presentation screen due to some press releases I saw. Very bad luck then - and i am glad that no arsonists seem to be involved - does not change the final result of a big loss of nice machinery though.....
