Hi brains trust. Every time I fill up with petrol (gas), after unscrewing the cap, I have to then remove what looks like a seal that's stuck in the neck of the filler. I don't have another one to compare it with, but should the cap be in two pieces or should there be some sort of clip or something that holds the inside "seal" bit to the actual cap? I don't want to order a replacement if this is how it's meant to be or there's a way to fix this one. The cap should be one piece, it has split into 2 in your case. You can also glue it back together - just make sure to do it only around the edges and not to cover any of the tiny holes in both parts - covering them can give you the CEL

Thanks, lots of places to buy. My go to place is Eurospares in UK, but usually look at who has the best price. More trying to work out if it should be like this or is broken. It's been this way for the 3 years I've had the car and no CEL from it. Just annoys me every time I fill up.

That's great to know thanks. I presume I could use some sort of fuel-safe silicone to glue it back together?

Mine has split too. Been like that for 3 years now. When I got the car I filled it up with gas once and didn't cinch the cap down super tight and got a CEL. Since then I torque it down as tight as I can with my hand. No other CELs since. Cost of a new cap ( a part that doesn't even show) has put my purchase on hold since all is well.

Do you remember which Permatex product you used? I'm having trouble working out which of their numerous products would be the right one.

I used a product called JB Kwik from JB Weld. Used about fours years ago. No CEL issues.

Sorry for my error. My son had taken it from me to fix something on his car.
He said it was Loctite (no affiliation), the picture is attached.

"...... Loctite® Epoxy Weld can be used as a convenient alternative to welding. ... Loctite® Epoxy Weld does not shrink and is resistant to most shop fluids such as water, diesel fuel, gasoline, antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, motor oil and transmission fluids. ... Build.
