My 812 GTS has been stage 90 - Water (intransit) - for almost 3 weeks now. I heard of people being able to figure out which boat/ship their car is on to get a better idea of when they might see the car. Any idea how to do that for Ferrari? Dealer doesn't know...

Anyway, I am more excited for this car than I have been for an exotic car in a while! Something special here...

Congratulations! I don’t think you can get more information than what the dealer has. I think 90 means its left the factory but it could be at any step in between there and your country’s port. To the USA its usually a 3 week shipping journey and given its winter, and Covid times, it really could be longer.

    You're not trying !

The linked thread suggests Vienna Express is one of the vessels used

She is now en route from La Spezia to New York eta Thursday - this may not be your car's vessel but it fits the timeline & historical experience - another week or so getting to the dealer (depending on your location which is unconfirmed) - so maybe it'll be ready with a pink ribbon for Valentine's day !

What you should have done is sent a FedEx or Amazon package with your car, then you'd know exactly where it is everyday! :D

That's the thing. You send a a FedEx package or buy a $20 item on Amazon and you can track its whole route. You spend $400,000 on a Ferrari and they don't know where the hell it is! :D

I just got mine a week ago but it took over 6 weeks from the time it went 90 until it hit the dealership. I had the holidays in the middle so I’m sure that added a week or two.

I would not suggest tracking an 812 on a ship unless its a pretty big ship.

    So Cal
Out of curiosity, how long can a car stay in category “10”?

It's been in customs, stage 91, for a few days now. Shouldn't be much longer!

After 91 my car was at the dealer within a week.

Stage 10 can be 30 days or 8 mos or more. It’s the toughest of the stages given the unknowns. My GTS was stage 10 for a year and a half.

After flying over my 812, I think I’ll do it every time. Waiting for a boat to cross the ocean, and a truck to cross the country just isn’t for me. Plus it will clear customs right away. Shaved probably around 5 weeks off my delivery time.

In the future I am going to do this too. I did it with a Lamborghini a while back and it worked well too.

I used www.marinetraffic.com to track and it worked perfectly. You need only the name of the vessel. Feel free to set your own alerts (I tracked a friends Porsche 2.7 MFI from Belgium) / I didn't use it / and I think if he did it all over again, he'd fly it rather than put it on a boat -- it's too long of a lag, and the longer you're in shipping, the greater your risk...)

This is a great point. I have a question.
I am NOT the original buyer of my FF, I purchased a preowned car. The window sticker includes an air freight charge of $9,000. I presume that the first buyer had the car flown to the United States, correct? In that case, typically how many days elapse between finished production and it arriving at the dealership? (I see the estimate of 5 weeks saved). Thanks!

Correct, it does show up on the window sticker, and factors into the MSRP.

As far as time from finished at factory to on a plane it depends. Mine sat for about 1.5 weeks but we got the flight scheduled kind of late in the process. I believe if you request air freight at ordering you’ll be able to cut down a lot of that time it sits completed before flying. My car was already in production when I requested it. I hadn’t learned that it was an option until I heard about it from someone else.

Thanks for the kind explanation. As a used Ferrari buyer, it’s hard for me to fathom paying a premium around $9k to fly the car to me. But then again with a sticker price worryingly close to $400k and about $100k of options, I’m guessing buyer #1 hardly even noticed it!
    Yay for depreciation!
