    Thought I'd post this for discussion The commonly recommended oil for the 355 is Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40. It's recommended for Meck, VW, Porsche, Fiat, Ferrari, and Maseratti. It's API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 rated. Then there is Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W40. It's also recommended for Meck, VW, Porsche, and Fiat, but not Ferrari or Maseratti. It's also API SN/CF , ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 rated. Viscosity wise, at operating temperature there is very little difference, and when cold, as shown in the chart below, the viscosity is much higher than at operating temperature for either oil. So what are your thoughts on using 0W40?

    Why run thinner oil? I believe many new cars do it for fuel economy... Screw that lol
    I'm running 0w-40 in the saab and e63s and staying with the 5w40 in the 355
    Maybe super cold climates might rationalize the 0w40

    If we are just comparing 0w40 vs 5w40. Then these questions are best answered from those who live in colder climates, most likely temperatures below freezing. Only initial engine startups while engine is stone cold would be the difference in oil performance between the two viscosities.

    The reasons for changing to a lower viscosity would be too high of an oil pressure during start up (oil too thick, pressure will be higher) or too long of a pressure buildup after a startup(oil too thick, harder to flow through the system). Assuming the engineers who picked this weight of oil, knew the temperature range of the models market, this would apply from freezing to summer heat.

    If we have an owner who parks their F355 outside in the snow and uses the car as their winter driver. Complains the oil pressure takes too long to build up when started or oil pressure seems pretty high. Lower viscosity oil may be something to consider and recheck.
