The real F40 with VIN 90969? (2nd is 85397)

Doesn't show the body number ID's in the photos that were posted.

 

The problem is though that the photo in that red book of the VIN stamped in the front trunk (which looks factory correct) is very different to the photo Birel posted up which he says is also the red car, as you can see from the two pics I posted yesterday, so both cars are suspect, not just the blue one, if Birels pic is of the current VIN in the red car.

Good question, I'm confused too.... Is the one in Post #104 above from the blue car? Or is there even a third one!? (In OZ?)
So far the red one advertised seems to be the genuine car. F40-R might want to take a photo of the ch.no. and post it here.

 

Also of note might be the cut-out (corners) or "window" in the carbon where the number is stamped. Almost all seem to have rounded corners (semi-circular), except one that has edges (square angle).

I've noticed that too, but I guess there would be variations as it was cut out by hand at Maranello as they came without from Fiocco (or others?)

Here's the one from 84420 as posted above in Post #103, without knowing the history of that car regarding possible accident repairs etc.
Also noting the difference in the carbon weave depending on supplier/batch and cut-out depending on who assembled the car.

Here's two with a cut-outs that are radiused at each end, all 4 of them seems to have the original tub,
with paint code and dipped headlamp inclination stickers present and correct.

Here's one of the prototypes (76687) which tub have a few unique features, including leather strap meant for a spare wheel.

as far as I am aware, and happy to be corrected, the F40 never had a spare wheel, regardless of being an early or late car. All the cars carried a tyre inflator kit, it can be seen in your photo under the tool kit, just behind the chassis number.

I think that leather strap is non original and may have been retro fitted for some reason.

I was careful to use *meant*. As you correctly point out the F40s never had spare wheels, but being a prototype it have many strange features.
The car was also used as a test mule by the factory for the cat version and have a unique cross brace over the wastegate + holes for data cables
which have been closed up with rubber bungs. Also Michelotto LM type seats, unique roof lining, rear fog lights in the mesh etc. etc.
Ferrari kept it until 1990. The leather strap can of course have been added after that, but it can also have been a feature from its first build.

Cut-outs for the chassis numbers have proven to vary between radiused and square, probably without any system to it.

What I'm looking forward to know next is the whereabouts of 85397, for which assembly no. matches the one of the blue Dubai F40.

 

As per previous comment, confusion can only be eliminated by viewing a current photos of both VIN stamps. The photo I obtained was from about October 2012. I guess, when there was a "90969" offered for sale in Japan indicated at 5,858kms price €320,000. From what has come to light this week (another 90969) it isn't possible to say which "90969" that car was 8 years ago.
We must allow for the fact nobody has been able to illustrate the actual VIN stamp on the blue car in UK.
Wouldn't it be a mess if there were 3 cars with the same number?

 

Furthermore, I would venture to say that on all Euro F40's the ZFFGJ34B0000 is one single machine stamp (as with the 911 on early RS Carreras) and only the last 5 digits are hand stamped. Look closely at all the alignments and spacings.

 

The "ZFFGJ34B0000" part of *90969* in Japan from 2012 have a slight bow in it, the following number looks too uneven too.
Also the stars at the beginning and end is on the p*** too, pointing up at 1 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock, can't possibly be kosher!?

Again, I hope someone can establish the status and location of 85387 quite soon.

Getting a photo of the blue Dubai car's ch.no. (*90969*) I guess is less than likely........

What do we deduce about the body number markings on the NSW 90969 since it appears there won't be any photographic documentation forthcoming?

I'd love to know where 85387 is. Was it ever in Japan? Is it in Australia somewhere?

The fourth letter of the 17-digit VIN number stamping here - to my eyes - looks more like a "C" to me rather than a "G" (ZFFCJ..... rather than ZFFGJ.....). Or maybe there is just too much black paint on the horizontal leg of the "G".

WHO (in the UK?) is the real and current owner of the blue car? Where can it be inspected and numbers photographed?
