Where to start with Private Jet / Personal Jet

    I think the Netjets option is best with the constraints, no relocation fees, and you know if there is maintenance issue they have a large fleet and have the next jet diverted and on its way. A Netjets share for domestic, and chartering for international might be the way to go, if I recall the intnl stuff with netjets gets extra pricey. We have a small netjets share and use it domestically and fly intnl on the airlines up front. However we also fly ourselves around in a 182 or 414a when we are up for that or the company pilot isnt running people around between hotels in the 414. That being said our annual budget is much closer you your lower figure.

    Probably decided that it was waaay too much money. I'm guessing airlines, or maybe an occasional Marquis flight.

    Of course, it's the baby one in the middle there between the real jets but still...

    yea, coincidentally I was at the Manhattan Beach Fry's today getting some computer cables, surprised they do not have a more efficient jet, that thing was made in 1968 and burns 570 gallons an hour (I'm pretty sure that's at the ceiling altitude so prob closer to 900+ gph at low altitudes).

    Someone said the 747 is kept on the ramp in Vegas or a casino might of bought it from them but it's at the vegas airport.

    I'm sure they own those airplanes because they like them, not because they did an objective analysis and concluded that a G-II, Sabre 60, and 747SP were the best answer for their transportation needs.

    There is a casino (Sands, I think?) which owns a 747SP, but I don't think it is the Frys airplane. But I don't know if Frys still have theirs or not. Kind of hard to sell these days, I think...

    yea, I wonder what their logic was to buys those planes, they must need to burn a lot of money in fuel and maintenance.

    Looks like they have TWO Gulfsttream GII's, (a 1968 & 1970) 2 Saberliners, a 747SP and a 727.

    when I sold the Columbia 400 I talked myself into it by promising myself I would always fly 1st and once a year treat family to private. well, although a $15-20k private round trip wasn't too bad in comparison to the Columbia 400, when you look at it by itself for just a simple trip when first for the family $3k, then I haven't even done it yet. :D

    Yes, totally hear you on that even though I had a slightly different experience. I sold my Cirrus SR22T about a year ago when the engine developed a crack in the case and I was just tired of the POS 1950s piston engine reliability - the plan was to go back to flying the airlines and suck it up. I lasted about 4 flights on the airlines before I chartered a P300 which was a ton of $$$ and decided it was time to get my Mustang type rating and get back into the left front seat...

    We have a really good traveling aircraft, a single engine turboprop (Meridian). PT6's are 1,000 times (literally) more reliable than piston engines and the plane flies at FL290 effortlessly. Jets are great too but for the cost, nothing beats a turboprop. No type rating required.

    Great glide range too with that long wing in addition to the PT6 reliability. I like the Meridian as a nice halfway point between high performance single pistons (Mooney Acclaim, SR22T, Cessna 400) and the VLJs. I strongly considered buying a Meridian but for my particular circumstances (6'6" pilot and a lot of my trips are 1500NM+) the Mustang is a better fit. But there is no doubt the Meridian is much more cost effective and quite capable, especially for typical 400-800NM trips with more average sized pilots.

    Thanks! For us, the Meridian is a 90% mission aircraft. We travel mostly 750nm or less. One tank takes us pretty much anywhere we want to go. 6-6 would be a tight fit. I'm 6-0 and it's very comfortable. Once my daughter is off to college, we plan to take an around the world flight.

    I think these are such wicked looking planes .... I’m not even a pilot, but find myself going to the Piper website to look at the newer “M’s” ....

    Nice Meridian, I used to have a 2000 PA-46 Mirage and am in the market for something else, not sure what to get, so many options out there, I don't have any certain mission except fun weekend get aways. I should of bought a meridian several years ago, now prices are up $200k+ on them.
