all other cars I've owned (all brands) I've lost so much money on that the money I made on those 3 fades into insignificance.

"Sold for more than you paid" Do you mean adjusted for inflation or simply the amount of dollars (or whatever currency)? I've sold several cars for more than I paid as far as the amount of dollars but if you figure in the inflation, I've never sold any for more than I paid. :(

I sold my GT4 for more than I paid for it. If you figure in parts I bought getting it roadworthy then I probably broke even. If you assign any dollar value to my labor then it was a massive money loser.

I'm probably on the same track for my QV as well.

Are you also including repairs and maintenance done during ownership? Lots of people make lots of claims regarding how much they made on cars, but conveniently forgot to mention what they spent during ownership. :)

I agree. My first 308 I purchased for $32K sold for $35K... but I probably had another $30K of Mtns over 15 years... that includes a full engine rebuild by FOA... $17K..... so did I sell for more than I bought it yes, did I make a profit. no. but it was fun along the way.

then whats the point? its a meaningless reference point.

I recently bought a car for $17K sold it for $25k sounds great except the tax, title, restoration, insurance, gas, etc was over $27k. So big deal, I bought it for $17k sold for $25k but int he end those numbers mean nothing.

I used to joke when I owned my 308 that I could sell it tomorrow for what I originally paid for it. I paid $20k for it. I could have sold it pretty much any time after buying it for that very easily. I ended up selling it about 12 years later for $42.5K. So yes, I sold it for a lot more than I paid for it. But like others have mentioned I put a LOT of money into it in those 12 years, somewhere around or even north of $30k. So I didn't make money selling the car. BUT....I also had a huge bunch of parts I'd collected over those years (that didn't go with or belong with the car). Once I sold all of that off I probably just about broke even on the total cost. Not counting my time of course, it was my hobby working on it.
