But keep in mind, $3,750 then is equivalent to $303,750 now, and that doesn't even include $500,000 in accumulated repairs, restoration, classiche and regular maintenance!

 

WOW! The last one is for a '64 GTO! Wish I had a time machine. I have a collection of Road & Track mag's from the mid & late '60's with similar ads. Fun to read.

 

Thanks for this time machine. It answered a question that I had been wondering: what were Ferrari's going for 50 years ago. My wife was watching a late 60's era episode of "That Girl" this afternoon and the show started with a scene of her sitting in a gold colored cabriolet while making a commercial. Looking at what they go for now on various sites for late 60's cars for sale, I told her that they sold then for a small percentage of current their current values. But just wow!

 

This ad is from a Feb 1968 Road & Track. The first one with the photo, a '56 250 GT already has a Corvette motor in it. The last one is for a 275 GTS for $9,800! Interesting how the ads included the private sellers name and address. Simpler times!

 

Have a basement full of old DuPont Registry issues and Ferrari Market Letters from the late 80's to mid 90's.

Still look back at history every now and then.

Could you imagine getting a 5 year old Ferrari today for anywhere near 36k?

 

in the fall of 1984 i saw an ad in road and track for a ferrari mexico needing restoration. - somebody had wanted to restore it but lost heart.
so there was the whole thing being offered on a couple pallets, for about $6k.
i begged my dad to go in on it with me.....no dice.
