Most of the advice here says to get a CPO car that has been well driven so that the kinks have been worked out as opposed to buying a garage queen. How do you define that? At least 3K a year?

    I think that's a good number. I've driven mine an average of slot 4 - 5 K per annum...T

Thanks Tom. For example there is a 15 T at my local dealer with only 6.5K miles. That seems super low.

My car had about 1 K miles / year when I bought it. Battery needed replacing, but that was pretty much it...T

As long as you get a good report from a PPI or if its covered by extended full warranty I would prefer the low miles.

A well driven car is one that doesn't give you error codes every time you start it! Seriously, I would say to allow 2,000 to 3,000 miles a year. With the older California's, of course, you're getting near the dreaded 20,000 mile mark. Read the post "Mileage Anxiety".

Is the 20k mark really dreaded especially if you have extended warranty?

I think the "dread" is if you plan to re-sell in a relatively few years.
F-car owners want virgins, while simultaneously bemoaning garage queens! Go figure!

The most important thing to look for is regular maintenance. This shows you that the prior owner cared about the car. Regular maintenance and a reasonable mileage per year are important signs of a car that's been driven and loved!
