I plan on renting a car but I haven’t booked a hotel yet.
Looking for a place on or close to a beach and a place that is reasonably priced. I don’t mind driving an hour or so.
Recommendations are appreciated. (I own a Mondial not an F430 ;))

Check out the Opal Grand Resort in Delray Beach. Newly opened to rave reviews, directly across the street from the beach and within close walking distance of about 50 open air restaurants and bars, and every type of shop imaginable. I don't know how "reasonable" the rates are, but your rental car will stay parked so you can cheap out on the car and apply the savings to the room.:)

I grew up there and like Fort Lauderdale beach. Lots of hotels to choose from at all different price points. Personally I favor Marriott family of hotels, including:
    - Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa
    - Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach
    - Marriott's BeachPlace Towers (timeshare but rents rooms by the night, very good for families)
    - The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale
    - The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort
    - W Fort Lauderdale

On Fort Lauderdale bead there is also:
    - Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
    - Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort
    - Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach

If you go a bit south you could also try some of the places on Dania Beach or Hollywood beach. The boardwalk down there is nice, though beware that the area is very French Canadian this time of year.

Even further south you could try Miami South Beach, which tends to be even pricier.

I would avoid going north of Fort Lauderdale unless you go all the way to Boca Raton or further north. Beaches are not as nice and there are fewer hotels.

A news story from this past weekend, Palm Beach hotels are at 60% capacity. So you can get a good deal. I second the Delray suggestion.

Palm Beach seems sold out. I’ll check out Delray. I appreciate the reply’s.

If you like an old Florida vibe, privacy with everything nearby but out of sight, check the Lago Mar Club directly on Ft. Lauderdale beach. Not across the street from the beach. On the beach. It’s a private club but also has hotel rooms. Rates are pretty reasonable as I recall.

On Las Olas Blvd. downtown there’s the Riverside Hotel. It’s also an older property, from the early 1940s I think, still owned by the same family who built it.

Ft Lauderdale was my home town for many years.

    Have a great time!

I’ll throw in a plug for Margaritaville in Hollywood Beach. It really depends what you’re looking for. This area is full of hotels that will suit anyone’s needs.

I booked The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.
Next question is whether or not I should get a car or just Uber. I’d like to be able to walk to a few restaurants.
I guess I can “drive” around the area using google maps.

Agreed, Uber is fine. You're close to the airport and everything is probably no more than a $10 Uber ride away.
