QV Steering Rack questions

Two questions: 1st. I’m in the process of changing the inner tie rod bushing for my 84 QV and I need to know what type of grease or oil do I use?
2nd. is there suppose to be a spring behind that little plastic cup where the ball and the plastic cup meets? I don’t know if I lost it or if it doesn’t have one originally. Thank you.

Ok since no one knows what lubricant to use on the steering rack, I found this and bought one from BMW, this seems like a good candidate for what I need. Now the only question left is the spring if it has one originally or not. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

 

Sorry Mike I can’t answer your question but where did you buy the dreaded passenger side bush from?

 

I got it from GT Car Parts but Superformance in UK also sells them as well.

 

No spring in that part. I usually make my own bushing. I use 936 bearing bronze.

Thanks Wade, I had one made up in bronze for my GT4 years back but can’t find the guy that made it for me anymore..
I need to either have that bush replaced in my rack or the quicker and easier option would be to buy a new rack from Superformance..

 

No worries Maurice, this place in NV that rebuilds the rack which is exact same rack as the 308 sells the bronze bushing for like $25 each
