The language. There is no justification for that, and the fact that you aren't willing to own up to that fact disturbed me. I've always felt that people show their true colors when they are under presssure, and you demonstrated a side of NNO that I don't respect. That doesn't mean I hate you, or that you're less of a person because of it. I still enjoy having you around. No need to reply, it's over and done. You have your way, I have mine.
Rob: I agree that Off Topic has it's place, my point was that it was a turning point, although it was probably a necessary one. I clearly remember Chris' run in with Magoo. Chris handled it with dignity, but Magoo just wouldn't let the poor guy go. I gained a lot of respect for Chris that day...
LOL, how can i not reply to something like that...? Bill, i think i definitely owned up to it; i had every right to say what i said to the people i said it to, regardless of who got offended in the process; i'm just saddened that i inadvertently offended some folks in the process... How did i NOT own up to it...? What true colors did i show under pressure...? Does everyone remain calm and act like themselves when they're under pressure...? No. So if people act differently under pressure, they're not really showing "true colors" per se, rather, they're acting how they act when under pressure... You see what i'm getting at...? Couple all of that with the fact that i put up with crap from morons, CONSTANTLY, and never flinched; i just felt that a different approach was needed...
To all the old timers that look down on us "youngsters" with our bad language and bad manners, here's an idea: STAY OUT OF OFF TOPIC! I rarely, RARELY post in GFD because I have very little to contribute. I understand that, while my F-car knowledge and experience is fairly substantial, I still have almost nothing to add of worth to the threads there. Most of the threads in GFD, or every section save Off Topic for that matter, are pretty on topic and serious. It's in this domain where people like me shine. Don't like it? Don't think it's on topic enough? Fine - GO AWAY. DON'T POST HERE. Consider "Off Topic" the kitchen. If you can't stand the heat, well, you know the rest. I respect Rob's rules. I understand that he owns this website and he can direct it in any way that he pleases. As soon as he makes a rule about obscenity, I'll abide by it. But, as far as I'm concerned, there are enough rules that I have to follow in real life, and I'm not going to impose any on myself in my leisure time. I'll follow those that are posted or implied, but otherwise, let me "dig my own grave" and have old bastards like J. Scott Leonard hate me.
Carbon, pls listen to what folks like Bill say. Next time you flame someone, try to do it without one cuss word. It's more work, but you'll find that it's a lot more effective. Just a thought
Dale, right, i agree, but i've been incessantly trying to explain to just about everyone that the million times i did that before just didn't work... Am i the only one who sees that or am i really just an immature, self-dubbed irreproachable troll...?
Maybe it's a generational thing. Your language was totally unacceptable. You don't seem to think so. I'm not going to go through your posts and pull out examples, you can do that. Your 'apologies' are always qualified by the fact that you felt justified in vomiting on your keyboard. That kind of gutter sludge, as Maranello Dave so aptly named it, is offensive and uncalled for. If you truly have the writing talent you think you have you could have destroyed them with a few quick barbs and be done with it. Instead you took the low road. That's showing your true colors.
So like i thought, no one paid attention to other countless times i did exactly what you stated and it never did any good.. However, by using "unacceptable language" i opened quite a few eyes, now didn't i...? The response, both in the thread, PMs, email and even phone calls was overwhelming... There's over half a million words in the English language; why society has chosen to render some of them "unacceptable" is beyond me, but that's for another thread, another day...
So there you go Rob. Nibblesworth now is the "Owner" of Off Topic, all others stay out because he follows enough rules that he won't except any in his leisure time! Isn't there a IQ test you have to take to be in the military?? Can ImpalaSS help me on this one???? "Billy was a loner, a little older than the rest, He was going to the Navy, but he could pass the test. So he hung around town, and sold a little pot, but the law was on to Billy, and one day he got caught." Robert Earl Keen Jr. "The Road Goes on forever...." I think I see some more valued Fchatters leaving thru the door now.... ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Its called the ASVAB. I think it stands for 'Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery test' or something to that affect. Its been years since I took it.
Anyone who posts on a chat line an average of 20 times per day for years on end opens themselves up to criticism. You are, in essence, a public figure and people are going to take shots at you. You seem to love the attention but you can't have it both ways, so learn to deal with it.
Aarrgh! I hate being a contributor to this thread hijacking but, here goes anyway. Carbon, reread what Bill and Dale are telling you. Trust me, they are absolutely right. Now, can we move on?
Good question! I'm sure George Bush, John Kerry, Michael Jackson and Monica Lewinsky ask it everytime that Leno and Letterman rag on them.
i have no problems with criticism; it's the constant, baseless, gratuitous, personal insults and unprovoked attacks that rub me the wrong way... i have no problem with people who don't like me; but when some of those people attack me for no reason, well, then, i think i have a right to be pissed... Case in point, to bring up someone's name who's already been mentioned in this thread: Bret never liked me... But we never had a problem with each other; he just didn't like me and that was that... There are other folks here who don't like me and they never say a word to me; that's perfectly cool with me... ...and lastly, i've only been on here for a year and a half...
Ahhh, the good old ASVAB test I took that thing back in 11th grade just for kicks, and it was one of the easiest tests I've ever taken -- nearly aced it. Buddy of mine took it his senior year and scored a perfect 100. That was back in the mid 80's, so not sure if they've made it any "harder" yet Ooops, sorry to get off-topic here...
Thanks ImpalaSS! I just don't understand what Nibbles means when he tries to fence of parts of the internet as his playground. He admits he has nothing to contribute to this site,...... and then he keeps on talking!!!!!!! You are OK, man. You came in right on time, like the Lone Ranger! Or, just maybe............... SSSSHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAANNNEEE! Speedy "Hand me the barbed wire, pardner" 308
Very true. Im sure they do it for ratings and because it sells though. People shouldnt take pot shots at others misfourtanes or the such. Unless it is something funny involving the President, Monica, and cigars.
I'll say it again. "A man curses because he doesn't have the intelligence to say what is on his mind"- Malcolm X I'm not saying you are not intelligent, but now that is how people view you, and that is too bad, cause I think you're a good guy.
Going to thread hijack some more here - If you get a really high score (to military people or just people in the know I guess) what kind of cool military jobs can that qualify you for? I know that I'm not cut out for the military at all (that whole taking orders thing... hmmm.. anyway), but my friend got a 99 and we are pretty equal I would say at the whole standardized test thing. Any stuff that you would see in movies? Intelligence or spying or cool stuff like that?
Wow. I'm just a highjacking mo-fo today! I scored a 100 on the ASVAB. I also aced a test (don't recall the name) intended to determine one's ability to learn a foreign language. I became an intelligence analyst and Korean linguist.
